I was just wondering if there is a reason for not having a pull start option on the rx1 and getting rid of that extra weight. If you got rid of the battery and starter you could save 30 lbs or more...... any opinons or answers?

I'm not sure as to why there isn't a pull start. I have wondered how the hell you start these things if your battery dies? :?: I've never owned one before so I havn't a clue.

Rope around the primary I guess, anybody ever tried it at -40? Hard or easy to pull over?

You'd have a hard time pulling it over, otherwise there would be a rope.

With 4cyl's, 20 valves there's no way you could ever pull that
over. Ok maybe if you had 40 inch arms, the starter turns it over so fast even if you could pull it I doubt if it would be fast enough to start it[at cold temps]. Not unless yamaha puts a DCV onto it.

I cant say how it would be if it was minus 40 out. The other day just for the heck of it I started my Warrior by wrapping a 4 foot section of tie down around my clutch. I gave it a good tug and the sled fired right up. I dont know how it would work if the sled had not been warmed up first.

are you kidding? If you are really concerned about weight, then maybe a different sled. Personally, I don't understand why everyone doesn't have reverse. Its like traveling in a covered wagon or a RV. Wearing glasses or laser surgery.

I'll tell ya why, look at the survey asking the age of RX-1 riders and you'll see the majority are of the age that want electric start. Me included

I don't care how much electric start or reverse weighs, this is the first sled I've had it on and won't have another without it. However, a KICK starter would get you some looks!!! Oh wait, isn't that how AC riders try to start theirs?

IMHO, the electric starting system has proven more than reliable. This is from experiencing minus 34-40 celcius temperatures. There is no need for a pull starter on the RX motor with the dry sump feature. The only time I had drained the battery was when I flooded my sled and that happened only once. A pull starter would not have helped in that situation one bit.

Within the first week of purchasing my 2004 RX-1. I had a rope around the clutch to see if it would start. It started right up with a good pull. I think they should of come with kick starters too.........

I finally figured it out. People are always trying to compare this sled to a car, but what car? Ferrari, Vette? NO, its a Cadillac CTS. Plush. Precise and sporty. Now as far as a pull start, would you put naked girl mud flaps on a CTS? If you would, then your sled should be GREEN! That would be like having a cloth bench seat in the CTS, its just wrong. If you want a fricking stripped down, lightweight, ditchbanger, then buy a different sled!

Put me down for the "a kick start would rule" faction.
Imagine kickin it over and hearing that beast roar to life

But for now I will put a 4 foot piece of tie down in my tool box for Emergency Use Only......
