I had a set of wiseco's in my sled and one of the pins cracked so I tore it apart. Anyway it used a fair amount of oil, but I'm not sure if it was the pistons or the turbo or probably both. Now, I bought another set of wiseco's because they were cheap (only $120 shipped with head gasket) and updated pins. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to keep these from letting oil past before I put it back together. It is the 1025 kit. I will not run the synthetic oil until after the first oil change or maybe longer if necessary. Wondering if that why some people are having problems. Any input would help.
Did you measure them?I am sure in different applications it varies alot but all the Wisecos I have run in bikes and quads burned oil after about 30hrs because of shrunk and collapsed skirts.Never broke one so it made it more acceptable. One buddy of mine swore by having the insides of piston shotpeened. The rings are also not as hard as other.I have changed to running CP pistons and very happy. The Wiseco chromed wristpins also work very well for eliminating gauling of the small end of rod but the chrome will crack over time and make a stressed area right at the crack leading to wristpin breaking. Its not a big issue in most motors but with boost or nitrous they also didnt last long.

The wiseco's I just pulled out of the sled look great still. None of the skirts looked damaged at all. It is just that they used tapered pins and the pins tend to collapse. The top of the pistons had a ton of black carbon crap on them. I was thinking that could have been from the oil, because my jetting is perfect with my o2 sensor. The last ride I could hear the motor ticking and I rode it back to the truck very slow, so maybe thats where the carbon came from.
Measure them.Looks arent the issue. When skirts collapse, shrink the piston rocks and rings let oil by.

I just measured them and they are the same as the new ones that I have. Even the one with the cracked pin that had an egged out hole was the same. Hopefully these are a better than some of their other pistons. I run wiseco's in my 900 unionbay two stroke and haven't had any problems with them. They've been in for two years now. Thanks for the info, if they had shrunk I'd probably run je's.
So do you think that having them shotpeened would help. How do I do this?

gas port your pistons and it will help the rings seal, after I did it I did not get any blow by at all. gained about 15 lbs compression per cylinder.
If they havent shrunk shotpeening wouldnt do anything.Maybe try the gas porting or gapless rings.Dont do both though.

I run 10:1 Wiseco pistons, oil useage is at 1 liter pr 1000 km or 1 quart pr 620 miles on average, nothing that I worry too much about. It seems that high rpm wot runs is what makes it use some oil.

I am not familiar with gas porting. Please explain.
