03 RX-1 with Bender stage 2, took it to the lake this weekend to try out new ice track and billet carb caps. It wouldn't rev past 9000 rpms. It seemed like it was hitting a rev limiter. We changed plugs, checked for air leaks, checked both clutches and reinstalled plastic caps. Nothing was working. Loaded it up and took it home. Once in the garage i discovered that the battery was almost dead and the charging system wasn't putting out anything. Anyone ever run into a ignition system acting like this from low voltage or do i need to keep looking?????? I figured if it had enough voltage to crank it, it should run it.
Thanks

Yea you need some volts! I bet you were way way lean!! The fuel pump could not keep up! It had no power. And the spark was very weak! = no HP!

You need to fix your charging problem and run it, before you do anything else.

Maybe with the new billet caps, it screwed up your jetting. Just a thought.
My thought also, i put the plastic caps back on to check, same thing???
Will have a service manual tomorrow to check out the charging system.
Hopefully it's the regulator and not the stator.
It needs to be ready for Tip-Up -Town USA @ Houghton Lake Mi. this Saturday.

It's total snowmobile insanity. It's about 35 miles around the outside of the lake and it's about 4 ft deep. My kind of lake :D
Right now it's bare ice, they need some snow to get a good turn out.
Thousands of snowmobiles. Some years the DNR looks the other way about drag strips and then some years they shut them down as fast as you get it going. I have not missed one for 12 years now and i am still alive to tell about it

A quick update, the regulator fixed the charging problem. It seems to have cured the running problem also. can't say for sure until we get it back to the lake this weekend.

They found another boost leak last night. The aluminum boost tube that runs through the tunnel was split down the side weld. :o| They pulled it last night so i had a little midnight tig welding to do. They should have it back together this morning and then it's off to Houghton lake. I need to head out in the garage this morning to finish my sled for this weekend.
Would like to see some more turbo sleds up there anyone interested in coming up give me a call on my cell and i can give you directions or a snow report. A friend that lives up there called this morning and says they have about 5" of hard pack on the lake and a few drag strips plowed off. :D (810-691-8298)

Well glad you found it! Did it look like a flaw or did some thing hit it? I dont run any studs on the out side of the track to stay clear of that baby.

Sled ran great on the lake this weekend. Low voltage was the problem.
We had the wrong track on it but had fun. We brought it with the ice track so of coarse they got 10" of snow Friday night.
Didn't have time to try out the Supertips.
