Woody's duellys and top speed any other carbide options?

Hi Guys,

I run simmons skis on my RX but my Dad who is 58, runs 6" woody duellies on stock yamaha skis and loves the fact that they dont dart but bone stock the sled ran 115mph, now we have the sled dialed in and running the woodys duals he can barely hit 100mph, not that he needs to go that fast he would like to be able to hit 115 again and since the woodys are worn out he is looking for replacement.

Anybody had good luck running a single carbide with no darting on the stock skis? We didn't at first even with a nice shim that leveled the ski per bergstrom but that was with stock 4" carbides. After we couldn't get them work we swapped on the duals and they worked great for his riding style.

He is looking for a somewhat inexpensive replacement and I dont think different skis are in the equation.

I ran Woodys duallies on my Vector and after a couple mods it seemed like I lost some top speed. Last trip last year my belt started to de-laminate so on with a new one and the sled got all the top end back. I got a great deal on Deuce bars this year at Novi so that's what I will be running this year.

You "WILL" lose some top end. They drag more than stock runners... I found running studboy duece bars work much better.. They have less drag and still perform like doolys in the straights and much better in the curves........... And they last a looooooooooooooong time. MM.

so what is the big differnce between the deuce and the dual woody's? i had a set of the woody'd and didnt really like them on my apex. are these better then say the berstrome tripples?

Here's what the DEUCE looks like, the design is much better, a lot less DRAG and much more aggressie in corners...its got a lot of BITE!

Deuces are still slower than Stock runners and other single runners. IMHO.
No experience with Woodys but I do with Dueces.
Dueces scrubbed about 8 km / 5mph off the top speed of my 06 Apex GT.
My former 04 Warrior with stock runners is now faster by a tick than the Apex whereas the Apex was faser until I installed the Dueces.
That being said, I really lke the Dueces and will be putting them on my wifes Vector GT. Great for a trail sled with stock ski's.
The SC RX1 will stay with single runners. It needs the speed.

4 or 6 in Dooly?

I've been using 6 in Dooly and they do a good job.
What is the difference between 4's and 6's ?
What's everyone using?

I was going to go with the new slim Jim woody's 6 in

On my 05 Vector or 08 Vector.

The difference is in the length of carbide on each of the runners. 4 means 4 inches in each of the dual runners and 6 means 6 inches on each.

Typically you go with more (longer) carbide with the more studs you have.

Generally (as I've come to learn) you'll run 4" for 72 total studs and under. 96 studs is borderline for 4 or 6 inches (depends on rider preference). 120 and 144 studs is 6 inches. More than 144 (next step is usually 172) would be 8 inches or more.

If you are not studded then it's either 4 or 6" depending on how much front end bite you want. Go too much and you can have the back of the sled doing a 180 on you in an icy corner.

This subject falls under the rule "ask 5 people and get 5 different opinions"

Yes I know about the length 4 6 8.
As you can see I have 96 studs.
I know it's HP/Studs/ Carbides = control

Just want to know what people are using!

I have tried the Woody's dooleys and Stud Boy Deuce bars. Shimmed and unshimmed. Woody's do have drag but steer much easier than the Stud Boys. I now run a Woody's dooley on the outside ski and a single 6" runner on the inside. Best setup so far. Unshimmed. There is a new runner out called Accord Double Down Runner. Looks like the Woody's but claim no ice build up. I will try those next time I need some. P.S. To the person who is going to put the Stud Boys on his wife's sled, I wouldn't. She will not like the steering.

She has ridden my Apex GT with them and liked them just fine.

Difference could be in set up and which set of Duece bars.

I chose the 4" Deuce as I figured 8 " total carbide on each ski centred under the spindle would be fine with 96 studs on a Trail Sled and they were great.

With 96 studs you think 4in dooly are fine?
I like the 6in dooly but maybe a bit too aggressive.
I plan to change the stock ones on my wife’s sled, but I ride it too.

I'll chime in and ask:

Do your trails often get icy? If yes, try the 6" If no, 4".

One thought - once the sharp new edges wears off the Doolies they're not nearly as agressive as new.
