well I did it, I finally got a 4 Stroke, she's an 03 RX1ER, and looks pretty sweet! I have been a member of TY for a while, but as I drove a Vmax 500Xt I was on the other side of the fence and didn't come in here much. I am looking forward to a great season and will be counting on the valuable info in here to keep my RX1 at the head of the pack, my buddies ride Polaris Ski-Doo and Cat ... they just don't get it... but they will!
First things first need to fix the front susp up... I know the 03 had progressive rate springs that were not great and weak sway bars, it has the updated links, but what else should I do to make it corner flat without sacrificing to much in ride quality?
Sled has 1.25 predator
I weigh 245 in my riding gear
As far as I know the sled is otherwise stock.
P.S. anything that I can do to silence the rattle at idle from the primary clutch area? I may be the clutch or the gear reduction, I am not sure.
Thanks for being here TY!

Just buy the Pioneer wide kit. It includes the straight rate springs and 12mm bar.
You should also make sure it had the long links for the bar as well.
Skis would be the other upgrade... Pilot, Simmons, precision... They all improve handling.
A 2" articulating riser rotated forward and 4" of foam added to your seat. makes it more of a rider forward deal and better handling.
Lastly, If you want a total upgrade, get the Bender mono shock upgrade to the pro action. Now you are as close to an Apex as you can be without buying one.
I am doing this to a Silver 03 and I have done all but the rear suspension to a Candy Red 05. Have fun!!!
I love that 03 red, I had one but sold it to try a 04REV600SDI, bad mistake.

ya I forgot it does have the updated (longer) links for the sway bar. I think the pioneer kit has to replace them anyways though as I was intending to use the 12mm bar.
P.S. thanks for the welcome by the way guys!

Nice! You will love it! for the front end I called Pioneer Performace.
they have springs and sway bars one thing I learned is that with the 03 long links you can only upgrade to the 11mm bar or you will need to buy 04-05 links for a 12-13bar

If and when you drop the skid pull those two front heat shields over the exhaust off ya don't need em! they're probably a big part of the rattle your hearing. If you don't take them out eventually one will come loose and get stuck between the tunnel and the track like mine did. Track will still turn but it's was noisy as heck and awful hard on the lugs. Also look into the 04 locking collar for the secondary side of the jackshaft. The suggested front end changes mentioned should cover the handling issues just thought i would mention the two area's i had issues with on my 03. Love my 4 strokes i know you'll be happy with it
Manitoba TY ride in February hope to see ya there

Nice sled, Red is the fastest - Not to Hijack, but.....
I have all the parts for the 03 front end. Springs, Sway bar, Bushings, and longer links.
If you or anyone else is interested, let me know...

Awesome welcome aboard, I just converted to 4 stroke this year as well (coming from a viper) and while its not huge news for these guys on this site I know what its like to be pumped up for a 03 rx1!

sync the carbs that will help the clutch rattle tremendously.

Welcome.
I believe it is the gear reduction that makes that noise, and not the clutch itself?
Yes, synching carbs, and turning the idle up a bit will help reduce that rattle.
Here are some mods that greatly improved my '04 RX-1:
Stiffer rate springs, 13mm sway bar, and quick spring adjusters from Pioneer
Nytro Seat (better ergo's, and storage space)
2" Powermadd pivot riser
Simmons skis with Bergstrom Triple Point on the inside.
Expert-X 136"
ECP Kit.
Heavy Hitters (clutching)
Aftermarket exhaust (shaves weight)
The great thing about these sleds is - if you're stuck with it for the long haul, it'll always start and run.

thanks for the tips guys, I picked up straight rate springs at a swap met today, looking for specs on installed height of the springs... found in the tech area for older sleds but not RX1 ... anyone know where to find this info?

most people set the springs so that when the front end is off the ground, the collars are turned down just to touch the spring.

Change the oil out once a year. Make sure you drain the engine and drain the resevior!
Your going to love that sled!
Also...welcome.
