A buddy has a pro cross 141 2012 Cat. He wonders if can go to Yamaha clutches due to repeated belt loss.
I don't think that will work with the 800 Suzuki, but not sure. Could some one confirm yea or nay!
I tease him that he has the PROTOTYPE for the new VIPER
what do you guys think or better yet know
Thanks yamadoo

Are the cat clutches not keyed as opposed to splined?

Measure the tapper on the Yamaha clutch if it's smaller you can get it tapper bored to fit . As far as the secondary you could get a jack shaft made or see if the viper jack shaft will fit
I have put a polaris clutch on a Yamaha before now they work very well so you may want to look into that as well
Or why doesn't he look into the team secondary clutch with a Yamaha or a Polaris primary

The crankshaft tapers are different size. He may want to contact his dealer, Cat has a special program aviliable where you can get the 2014 upgades for little or in some cases no cost to 2012-13 owners.
Part of the update is a new secondary clutch which has additional cooling fins.

There's a recall for the 1100t. clutch not sure if the 800s get the recall or not.

They all get the " update " 1100 & 800's but only to the ones that have problems and been to the dealer with . If you haven't been havering problems then you can get it at a discounted price. Who knows if it's the fix or not nobody has got them yet or have ridden there sleds with the update plus there's more to the " update " then just a clutch .
So back to the question he asked
you may have to get the tapper bored alittle and also look into a Polaris primary with the "new " secondary Cat can out with May be a good set up ...if Cats " update " doesn't work I would go with the team ..
If I get a cat that's what I'm going to do
yamaha primary , team secondary great combo

Theres already a few guys who made 300m series jackshafts fot the eleventy's that are making a new run with yammi splines so all that cat folks can ebay up a nice used yam 2ndary in their 12/13's
Options are out there.
Far as tapers go yamm taper is 30mm so you may be fimd someone to zip you out a 33 or 35mm taper bore in a yam primary.

Sure are and IS being done.
And what confuses me .. . Lemme ask ..
What is inherently "special" about the current yam clutches. When compared to current cat ....
My opinion. Yamm clutches are of a solid and known working tech .. just like pre diamond drive cat clutches.. bulllet proof.
They bark up the wrong tree ..............why not retro fit reverse cam cat clutches. No need to use yamahas version of the same tech . Cat tried to reinvent the known awsome working wheel and screwed the pooch.
Yam jumps in and reuses known working tech. And now its a sales point.
My god the market is either dense blind or both. Cause facts are there is nothing special about the yammi reverse cam clutch set. Which is no diff than pre 05' cat rev cam clutching.
The cat and yam chaincase even with reverse is nearlypart for part identical for the rev cam clutches. WHY? Because its awsome and works without issue..... why has every attempt from every manufacturer to stray from the known good been met with a disaster. ? . Cause the best way to do what needs to be done has been in sleds for 20 yrs now.
Its highlarious to see all the cat guys scrambling for yam case parts and clutches when that answer has been there ALL along.

from what I have been told was that Yamaha put a patent on the secondary floating clutch, that is why ski doo struggled in 08 and now cat since they can't float the secondary ,true or not I don't know but it kinda makes sense ,I have two Polaris on 12 and one is a 13 both have floating clutch and no belt issues either.so if true about patent how did Polaris get around itRob_0t said:Sure are and IS being done.

Engine Reverse on 2 strokes.
That started the problems with belts. Cant use a torsion spring secondary with it.
Cats problem is not just the clutches. There is other issues or a combination of issues that cause belt blowing. HP is only one factor in the issue. Does it worry me being a Viper owner? Heck yea. If I dont get 2-3000 mi on a belt and a solution is not found quickly the Viper will be gone. But that wont happen right?

Most of the belt issues is that TLC or TLC what ever they call it ....jack shaft should be a fix mount , there are a few places where u you can buy a delete kit for that and helps a lot
