i'm tossing the idea around of selling or trading my gp1300r in the spring and getting a jet boat. i'm not sure if i'm going to go new or used. the new ones are expensive but they are nice. i haven't decided on a model yet. any owners out there with pros or cons? i have some boating buddies that have boats and tell me not to bother with a jet boat but i think i would rather have a jet boat plus the yamaha reliability.

Take a stroll on over to http://yamahajetboaters.com/ Tons of good info if you read around.
I'm looking at purchasing a new one this winter and the site has just as many helpful, knowledgeable people as this one.

I had a exciter 220 and it was a fun boat, 50+mph and woudl make 180's at that speed, insane G's.
fun for the boys but not real suited for family. It was loud and smokey. I'm amzed how expensive they are now and if I was looking unless I needed the jet drive for the main water your on I would look for a regular boat, they dont steer for crap and I even had the cobra jet steering on it.

Depends on your needs .... I have a Yamaha Exciter 270 for use on small lakes and its a blast and works great for our needs (tubing, skiing, etc.) for short runs. Very quick and very manouverable once you get the hang of it. It fits our needs.
You need to establish what type of boating activities you plan on, where you will be using it (sheltered / calm water vs open / choppy), how many people you need to accommodate, how much space you need, restrictions in the area you will operate it, etc. before settling on a model.

I had a 2000 LS 2000 jet boat i had a blast with it, handled great you can have 5 people in it still pull 2 or 3 tubes. Mine would run about 53 with me in it and all the gear. The only downfall it did like its gas.

Your better off with a stern drive powerboat. They have much more efficient drives than a Jet boat. Better maneuverability as well as an actual reverse gear.
