Been looking at the Polaris too. mostly wiring, suspension joints, fuel injection quirks and major clutch issues. all day everyday, then I clock out and take the olady out in the rhino

Hahahaha.....that's why I'm only looking....but the brp's side -side are nice.....just can't see spending that much money for one......you could get a really nice jeep for that money with a 6" long travel kit then put a small block V-8 in and have all kinds of fun......just saying......

I'm starting to have my disappointments with Yamaha also (along with Honda, Suzuki, and Kawasaki). I went into the Yamaha dealer the other day to purchase a Grizzly 700 and left with a Can-Am Outlander Max XT 800r. Half the time I have the wife behind me riding and figured a 2up atv makes more sense. Plus can't complain about having 71hp from a v-twin either (love the exhaust note!). Time will tell on the quality, but after 140mile ride over the 4th, this thing hauls! The ride is incredible and the power is insane (and smooth). I tried doing a wheelie on pavement and left two black strips until I let off the gas.

On a side note (and I know many already know this), I have to say that no matter what manufacture you buy from, make sure and get the power steering. I can not believe how that alone has changed atv trail riding for myself.

I have been waiting for a 800cc since 2003... why design a new side by side and not a new engine..... WTF

Maybe the consumer doesn't matter, it is really starting to feel that way.
I feel the exact same way! In no way will I bash Yamaha but come on! It's time for new product/engines/facelifts/whatever in their off road line! I was really looking forward to the unveiling last night in that if they released a whole new grizzly, I was getting it no matter what! Well, I was very upset!! I just sold my grizzly 550 last weekend because I had an offer I just couldn't refuse so I let it go. It is/was down to a new grizzly--IF they unveiled a whole new machine--and a can-am outlander 1000xt. Anyone wanna guess what I purchased today??? You got it! The CAN-AM!!! I bleed blue big time and I will continue to purchase certain Yamaha products, just not this atv product!! Yamaha lost what was a very loyal off-road customer of theirs today. If they look up my purchase history, they will see how much product I've purchased in the past. Last night drew the line! Sorry Yamaha, your fault! Hello CAN-AM atv's!!!!!

Let us know how the Outty pans out. My buddy has a G1 Outlander 800 and it hasn't been very durable. I hear the G2 outlanders are better though.
What year is his g1,mine is the 2011 outty max ltd 800,and now has 3900 miles, not one major problem,in fact only problem, was the air pump for my rear shocks, giving me a message on my pod,but it never stopped working, and they fixed it under warrenty,i think alot of folks beat the snot out of things and dont take care of them, than you can run into problems,we also have a 09 grizz 550 with 2700 miles and never even checked the belt yet.

Congrats on your can-am purchase. I'm like you, my outty hauls AZZ!! So far I'm loving it and sounds like you are too. Like you said, the ride is amazing. Yours probably rides a little better than mine with the longer wheel base. But so far, no complaints or issues. It is a blast to ride. Insane power!!!!

His is a 2011 outlander xxc. He Rides pretty hard. His frame had to be gussetted. I run an 09 550 as well. 3500 miles so far with only a couple issues.

I can't imagine what your 1000 is like with power! Meeting up with a bunch of buddies labor day weekend and looking forward to putting a couple Cats and Grizzly's to shame.

Hehe!! I had my first trip last weekend up in Wisconsin. Group of 4. I had to practically beg to get others off my outty so I could ride it! What a machine!!

My prediction...yamaha is re grouping...maybe but one if the other players ? Maybe yamaha will end up buying out arctic cat..it provides them with a u.s. Manufacturing presence and reduction in operating costs.
therefore, yamaha is slow playing its engineering efforts for now...economics of low volume japanese manufacturing along with previous sunami doesn't help either.

X2 for last year I have been thinking same thing. Yamaha buying AC. Today I got to check out the new Viking UTV. It kind of got me thinking otherwise. I dont get what they are thinking dropping the Rhino and offering just the Viking. Its a nice machine but it is BIG. The smaller size of the Rhino was one big reason people bought it. Viking will directly compete with the AC HDX. Some things are nicer than the AC like its much easier to get into, ride is a bit better, like the 4x4 selector and the tube rockers. The wheels look out of proportion and there is no storage or front reciever hitch compared to the cat. If they are buying cat I dont think they would have made a 3 seat UTV to compete with the cat. Time will tell.

I've been thinking the same thing

I drove a new Viking. Its actually quite nice. A little more vibration at idle over the rhino, but it has alot more jam, then the rhino. It accelerates alot quicker then the rhino and it does 51mph and it still hit the limiter. Not bad for a single 700. I believe that machine could do an easy 65+mph with the ecu unlocked. Very comfortable to drive, but again it is bigger. A 2 seater like that would be nice. I like my Rhino, but I like the Viking alot more and it is better suited for me with my 2 kids. I might wait til spring when a Black SE is supposed to come out. For trail riding it's a great unit.
