Does anyone think the ZX2 is too stiff in the small and medium bumps at 'normal' trails speeds? I have 400km on it and find everything else is great but this. I weigh 200 lbs and have my preload set to 1. I have tried all the combinations of revolver settings and can't make it ride any better. It seems like it is only using about 1/3 of the travel. I looked at unloading the spring by moving the preload collar down futher on the shock but the locking nut is already at the bottom. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I am 235-240 before I get dressed. For me it is perfect...even in the small bumps. I could see it being a little stiff for a 200 lb rider.
P.S. The trails in Canada are too smooth. Bring your sled down to Tug Hill...you'll love that ZX-2 after a day of riding "The Hill"

Mine rides real smooth and i only weigh 175 all stock settings . I raised the frount with the floats and it got choppier in the small stuff and stiffer . going to lower again for softer ride .

I don't find it rides stiff at all.
A couple of things you could look at which may cause the suspension to stiffen is the track tension. Too tight might cause a binding situation. Maybe you could loosen it a bit?
Was it mounted correctly? On my sled, 2005 Vector, the front arm mount hole was relocated about one inch forward and down about an inch too. It looks like the earlier RX1s have the same mount point.
What kind of sled do you have?
Give Jeff a call at AD Boivin, and he could probably offer some advice.

I am 200 and it does not soak up those little bumps at trail speed like my edge did, but i don't consider it stiff by any means. However I have not made a single adjustment just out of the box and on. I would leave the preload at 1, and set the revlover on the max settings one way then the other, its easy and will give you a feel for the range of adjustment then find a happy medium. Still not happy call Jeff.

On last question how much sit in do you have when you get on the sled? I remember Jeff saying going to a soft preload to get sit in is bad because its using all the soft valve stroke of the shock and then your riding on the no bottom out valveing of the shock. 0-2" is perfect adn the closer to 0 the better I think. I have my preload at 4 and its sits in about 1/4-1/2", you may be too soft on the preload.
Thanks guys. To answer your questions;
I have an 07 Nytro. I'm currently running the floats at about 65 psi (no load pressure) to level the sled out since the back end sits higher now.
I'm guessing but I think sit-in is about 1 inch. It sounds counter intuitive but I will try increasing the preload to run in soft valving section of the shock.
Track tension in the cold is about 3/4 inch sag with no weight and about 1.5 inches with 20 lbs pull. I never experienced any ratcheting and only once or twice did I hear the track rub on the stud protectors.
I used the ZX2-63 mounting kit. The front hole is about 1 inch below the old hole and slightly forward
Getting ahold of Jeff is tough some times.

62crusr - Don't try to soften up the springs, big mistake. This skids design makes it work unlike all other skids out there. Kinger is right on the money. You need to adjust the preload for your weight fully dressed and ready to ride. Mine is at 5 on preload, for agressive riding, weighting in at 215 all dressed up. I have almost no set in at all. My ZX-2 feels softer that anything I have ever ridden before. Give it a try, up the preload for your weight and go riding it again.

I went out with no preload and the revolver at 2 and 4 as per the directions and found it stiff, set the preload to 4 and went back out and found an improvement. I've only put maybe 20 kms on the skid so far and it seems okay, not the be all end all some are ranting about. Not sure if the improvement over the mono is $1300.00 dollars worth. Maybe it just needs more time to break in.

I guess it takes 100 miles to break in, how much sit in do you have now? Were all learning about the skid it will come around. Thanks

I have both a '05 RX-1 Monoshock sled and a '03 RX-1 136" with the ZX-2 installed. There is no comparison, the ZX-2 outperforms the Mono by far. I have ridden both my sleds on the same trail in the same conditions a few days apart. I ride my sleds hard, the ZX-2 smoothens out the rough where the Mono can't handle the rough at all. This is my opinion only, riding my sleds like I stole them on rough ungroomed trails. For trail cruisers on groomed trails results may be quite different.

I got a chance to ride 45 miles with the ZX2 today and thought it didn't feel much different then the Mono at first....then I started to realize it 1-wasn't kicking back over some nasties, 2- didn't bottom out over the G bumps, 3-felt great the faster I went over the "crap",4-didn't hold snow like my mono,5-didn't have to worry about my idlers. That's just the start!
Found my problem. I had the front shaft mounted in the factory mounting hole and not the new lower one - Doh. No wonder it didn't work properly with the geometry all screwed up. I knew I had to do this and assumed I did. Don't know what I was thinking.
I put on 225km yesterday. What a difference it made. This thing rocks now. I moved the preload to 2 and tried the various revolver positions. Seems like the default 2 & 4 works best for me.
Thanks for the help.

62crusr - Great to hear you got it fixed, now you see what I'm talking about .
We all make mistakes from time to time. I guess my mistake when torking down the head on my turbo sled to Yamaha specs had even a greater DOH factor to it, no wonder I blew the head gaskets in no time. Next time I almost got it torked right, but not perfect this time either. Well.... merry christmas everybody have fun and ride safe
