Re: XTX, track options
Yes it had the stock drivers! Not sure on the 2" with stock drivers. As far as how much of a tunnel extension you would need to go to a 153" or a 162" is a good question. Might be a formula for figuring this out, perhaps one of the experts can chime in on this. ;)!
If you go with the 1.75 you will have to remove the tunnel protectors! This pic is a 09 XTX with a Camoplast Back Country 144X15X1.75 track under it! ;)!
I don't think the running boards will be an issue! (Still going to be tough to beat the Better Boards!!)As far as the ski stance goes the MTX and XTX that I rode were both 46.5" outside to outside of the skis. The MTX skis are 7" wide and the XTX skis are 5" wide, so you might gain a couple...
I thought there would be a lot of good ideas and input from the Experts on this subject! If you were going to do this project what would you do? Lets give him some good ideas!!! ;)!
I have ridden both the 08 MTX and the 09 XTX and if you can stretch the budget I would go for the XTX! First thing I would recommend if you went with the 08 MTX is to get different springs on the front shocks ( the 08 springs are a dual rate spring and make the sled feel reel tippy with factory...
I had a chance to ride the XTX twice now, once with the standard 1.25in lug track and once with the 1.75in lug track under it. Being a former trail rider logging tons of miles in the UP in MI , I don't think you could go wrong with the XTX! On the second ride I pounded the snot out of this thing...
08 vs 09
The only changes that I know of are revalved shocks with a new single rate spring for the front suspension. New clicker shock for rear skid. Rode both the 08 and 09 and I didn't see any difference in the running boards!
;)! Buy an 08!!
I think the hyfax were doing fine until they added the 1.75in lug track for the dealer meeting (you know how those dealers are on the new equipment!!!LOL). Maybe the track was to tight, no scratchers etc!!! The ones they took off were down to the wear line, but I have had Yamaha's in the past...
It's made by Mystery Ranch which is a local company here in Bozeman, MT. They make packs for the Military, Hunting and hiking. If you have ever heard of the Dana Design Packs (which K2 bought out and is now marketed under the Marmot label), this is the same guy who made and designed those. Great...
