Has anyone who has a MTX taken the front shocks off and removed the springs? What I need is the OD of the spring, length of spring and and thickness of the wire!!
Thanks ;)!
Front Springs
For 09 they are going to a single rate spring (it is a 32 neuton millimeter spring). To convert that to a US rate spring, measure the old spring for OD, length and wire thickness that should get you almost dead nuts on to what we will see on the 09. I am sure someone on here has...
Good eye mryamaha! Actually in the pic the hyfax were off, they were putting new hyfax on the sled and while they had it tipped over I was able to get some pics!
I think they are going to be offering a kit ( hi rise bars, track and skis? not really sure what it will consist of! ) for the Mtn regions for the XTX. It was a camoplast track just not sure what model.
I just rode the 09 XTX with the 1.75 under it out here in MT. Temps ranged from -4 in the morning to about 39 in the afternoon! This thing is a blast on the trails and truly feels like any 121" that I have ever ridden ( former flatlander from MI ). I got to open it up on some whooped out...
Bismark, I just got done riding the new XTX for the second time (last week in W Yellowstone and today in Anaconda, MT). The guys from Yamaha put a 1.75 lug track on this one. This sled just rocks!! For the kind of riding that you are going to be doing I think you would be very pleased with one...
Here is what I have learned on the 09 front suspension change.
1. Caster angle changed from 22 degree to 26 degree
2. Trail angle from 21.4mm at ski bottom to 42.5mm at ski bottom
3. Relocate tie rod on spindle to improve bump stability
4. Changed 10 components
5. Was told the 09 would Not...
Well if you look a little closer at the 09 brochure they also list the Nytro XTX and all the LTX models with a 15x121x1.25 track also. Guess they just got hung up on that track size!!!
Could very well have been a miss print in the brochure. I am looking at the 09 brochure and they have the XTX and all the LTX models listed with a 15 X 121 X 1.25 Rip Saw track, OOP'S. Wonder who was proof reading these :drink: :drink: :drink:
UPDATE!!
Okay just got off the phone with the Yamaha engineer and this is what he told me is different on the 09 MTX front suspension.
Revalved shocks (same shock as 08 with slightly different valving) with different rate springs. The current spring is a dual rate spring and the problem is it...
I really don't know other than they felt it was more of a trail sled issue and not a mtn sled issue???? Guess they haven't rode the MTX on the trails at all!!

Looks like something is different according to Yamaha web site!!
Clutch / Transmission
2009 Venture Lite
YXRC, variable ratio
2008 Venture Lite
YPZ, Variable Ratio, Electronic Shift
If you go to the 09 model that you are looking at and click on the specs there is a drop down comparison selection that will compare the 08 & 09 model side by side!!
