Ram for me as well. Cig lighter power cord soldered direct to battery(inline fuse) with power cord coming up thru the bar pad.

UPDATE Turned out to be the installation of the stator cover dislodging the pick up coil which then rubbed on the AC mag rotor.

Make sure you use a plastic primer (rest-oleum specialty plastic primer) and the above paint and you will be fine. Light coats are also very important.
