It didn't work - the Alum. was hardened in the process and it cracked too. I would leave the bolts, and fab thicker brackets, and bolt them on. I heard about a factory re-enforcement bracket that is supposed to be heavier but I can't find it.

I'm glad it worked out for you. Stuffing the stock seat has it's advantages too. I like the Mt Mod - IMHO: It's worth every penny.

Whatever mod YOU do, you will eventually spring for an aftermarket seat any way cause: a) it just doesn't look right, b) doesn't hold it's firmness or height, and c) the cover still gets wrecked - BTDT. Don't forget, you can always sell the stock seat for half of what a new one costs, instead...

You will need the Mountain cables to go that high (straight) up & back. A better alternative would be to get a pivot riser to go forward. I had a PM pivot with I think a 2" block (3.25" total) on my RX-1 and I probably could have got by without the Mountain cables.

All I will say is get rid of the Yamaha skid. Find what you know is better and put it in. With all of the bottoming that these skids tend to do you'd better get it fixed or you'll be left holding the bag when stuff starts to break.

I concur. There's not much difference in the length of the two cables either.

Yamalube Shaft-drive lube changed every 500 - 1000 miles. No problems.

That's what the velcro is for...to keep the seat from shifting. The windshield trim is a good idea. FYI: Even an Apex with a shifting seat will cause the seat cover to tear.

I know they SHOULD - but their immediate response is: Rails are not covered. I'm not going to spend $575 on factory replacement parts, only to have the SAME parts break again. If they decide to cover it great! It will help with the resale :tg:

BTDT - It won't hold up. The part will become work-hardened and it will crack at the weld. If you re-enforce it, the next weakest point on the arm & rail will break. PLEASE - TAKE THE SLED TO THE DEALER AND HAVE THEM REPORT IT TO YAMAHA, MAYBE EVEN AS A FACTORY DEFECT. Y.E.S. WILL NOT...
