I remember reading a post where they were talking about putting a shim under the rubber in the rear of the ski spindle in order to take some weight off of the front of the ski's. Seems like I need to do this on my RAGE. Has anybody done this and could you tell me a good thickness to use. Seems like small changes that close to the spindle would have large affects way out at the ski tip.

Thank you
Walman

Yeah!! I tried 1/4" rubber myself. Too much. I removed them last night and put some 1/8" rubber in. I'll see how that feels tonight. I've got to do something. My steering is difficult and the front of my carbides always wears first. That makes it even more difficult

I used a 3/16 aluminum shim that I cut from some 1.5" wide flatstock (hardware store or home depot).
Just lift the front of the skis and slide them in between the ski and the rubber bumper behind the spindle. Mine have been in there for two seasons now and they just sit there and don't move.

I used a white shim used to level toilets that works well. You can buy them in Home Depot.

Like he said....toilet shims from home depot. 4 pack for $2...made a big difference...no where near the darting, even the shaper bars didn't help till I shimmed......

Don't you have to remove the ski to get the shim under the rubber bumper?? Never tried doing it with the ski still attached...

I just put in the Home Depot toilet shims in last night. No chance to try it yet. I didn't find the darting too terrible initially but thought I would give the shims a try as it is simple to remove them if I don't like the outcome.

Does anybody know how thick these toilet shims are? My original question was how thick to go. I Know 1/4" is too thick. I consider myself to be fairly strong and I could hardly steer with them in. I see TAZ107 used 3/16" so I'm hoping 1/8" might be a move in the right direction for me. Also my carbides are pretty much missing all the carbide in front of the ski so it makes test driving tough. I have new ones but I leave Sunday for a week in Quebec and want to save them for the trip. Figures, I live in western NY and weare finally getting snow when I'm leaving. I got 4 feet in the last week. LOTS of POWDER for the RAGE

I actually used the toilet shims, they taper from just under 1/4" to nothing, and I put them almost all the way to the back, but centered left to right, with a small stainless screw to hold them in place, along with some epoxy...so far..so good...the wife said it made it way easier for her to control on the trails...where before it darted quite a bit...

The rubber has quite a bit of give to it, so any thinner and I doubt you would even notice them...

On the one side I removed the ski and inserted the shim... I then realized if I jacked the front end up I could lift up on the ski hoop and stand on the rear of the ski and insert the shim without removing the ski, you just need to get the front end up high enough to get enough angle on the ski. :-o
