06 Apex bars on an 03 RX1

I agree with 03rx1mn, there is a big mass of metal with the metal hooks that has to be heated before you feel much heat there.

Using a resistor wastes power your magneto doesn't really have to waste.

How about using the plastic hooks?
Get them in black to match the existing grips.
Almost no thermal mass! ;)!

Couple responses.

As far as the resistor / Magneto issue. The resistor would produce a bit of heat, but should reduce the current enough to not put undue strain on the magneto. The idea is to raise the resistance to the level of the stock bars.

I am not familiar with plastic hooks. Are they plastic all the way to the inside of the bar? If so, how do they connect, or stay in?

Yes, the resistor will limit the maximum current/minimum resistance, however, in operation will always make the bars use more power than they would otherwise for the same heat.

Yes, the plastic hooks are all plastic except for the bolt.
They use a wedge type assembly that gets bigger as you tighten them to grip the inside of the bars.

Think I have seen them on Dennis Kirk & others in many colors.

Hope this helps! :-o

Well, I decided to go back to the stock '03 bars and grips. I am going to keep the APex bars, and use them when mine are wore out. If someone had an idea of these working it would be great to know.

Thank you everyone.

You can use the Apex bars with heat to the ends, with one of the Warm Hands Controllers, that is the set-up I have on mine and they are toasty, without risk to the ECU etc. ;)!
