My buddy calls me and tells me his Nytro wont start. I own an Apex, so I have a little background on common items with that sled so i go over to give it a 5 minute look, cuase i am pressed for time. I figure I will swap out the fuel pump relay and she will fire right up. I get there and this thing is carbureted. So not being well versed in common failures with this I figured I would come on here and see if there are some common items to look for before I head over there tomorrow with a little more time to burn.
Here is what I know:
It cranks over fine, but does not fire.
When I hit it with a shot of starting fluid it kicks like it wants to go, but does not reall stay running on its own. I am reluctant to push too much of this stuff into it, and am using it more as a diagnostic aid, than anything else.
He does no maintenence in the spring, so I am sure he has ethanol fuel with no stabilizer. I will bring fresh fuel with me to eliminate that possibility. I am thinking there is probably a 3 out of 4 chance that this is the problem, but if it isn't, I am looking for other fuel delivery issues that may be common to these sleds.
All fuses in small panel on right side under the hood are good.
Can anyone tell me if this has an electric fuel pump with relay like the Apex, or is it mechanical? I see what looks like a mecanical pump on the left side over by the carb rack.

I believe your right it is still a mechanical fuel pump, My only other suggestion would be dirty carbs but that's only because my old rx warrior was a pain to keep carbs clean, fresh fuel is a good start but if it is dirty carbs my only solution was to open them up and clean them, but then again the four holders are a whole different animal than the three cylinders. By the way his 06' was actually based on the original rs vector head over to that forum and repost they may be able to give you some better suggestions. Good luck.

my dads 05 vector is stubborn to get the first start of the season.
if i remember, i blew into the fuel vent, that runs down behind secondary, to pressurize the tank. then just capped it with a finger.
there is other helpful hints floating around on here but can't remember what they were.
try & do a search in the RS forum rather the FX.

First off pull carbs and clean them...then after they are back on blow into the fuel tank vent (with gas cap on) to pressure in tank...that will push fuel into pump and she will start
You don't need to keep pressure in tank to start it ..just need alittle to get fuel moving
Good luck with it....

I wouldn't touch the carbs. If you're pressed for time I wouldn't waste much time on it. I hate when people dont look after their things and just expect someone else to deal with it when they decide they need it again at the last minute.. Sounds like a job for the shop and a bill for your buddy.
Your buddy needs to get rid of that so called Nytro and buy the real version! LOL!

Do this to all the carbed four strokes in our group for the first start of the season. Expect 10-15 seconds of cranking before the fuel gets there. If that doesn't work, it's probably carb cleaning time or the plugs are fouled.

I know it sounds simple, but make sure theres fuel in it. It happens more than you think.
