- 06 Yamaha Nytro ER 1000cc
i have a 06 Yamaha Nytro ER and a 03 Yamaha Viper 700 both stock except the viper has a can on it. Now is the Viper just faster? or is there something wrong with the Nytro? Only thing that has been done to the Nytro was normal mantinance like oil changes, belts.. I think you get the point. It just doesn't seem like the Nytro has the power it used to have. Should i change the spark plugs? Here is the Nytro:

The nytro isn't exactly slow! Compared to my warrior, it is slower near the top end but from a start until 40 or 50, they are neck and neck. I'd check the plugs, and of course, clean the carbs if you haven't.
Nytro is 130hpish and the Viper has 125hp. Viper weighs less and has twice the power strokes the Nytro has. The sleds should be close.
Rx1's had a hard time losing me when I had my 02 Viper. Only on long lake runs would they start walking away.
I would be ski to ski with them to atleast 80mph and then they would slowly creep ahead.

I clean the carbs every season, going to check the plugs as they are original lolThe nytro isn't exactly slow! Compared to my warrior, it is slower near the top end but from a start until 40 or 50, they are neck and neck. I'd check the plugs, and of course, clean the carbs if you haven't.

The Viper will smoke the Nytro. lol, going to check the plugs and see if they are f*cked the sled just hit 4000 Miles and i have never changed the plugs. Maybe the Nytro needs some clutch work..Nytro is 130hpish and the Viper has 125hp. Viper weighs less and has twice the power strokes the Nytro has. The sleds should be close.

lots of people here get lots of miles on plugs these are nothing like 2 strokes. and the Nytro isn't a speed machine, it's meant to be thrown around, if you want fast you go with a 4cyl, the viper is definitely faster

the nitro in your avatar is geared down 2 teeth compared to the same year vector for better acceleration/throttle response from the specs I looked at. on the hard pack geared like a vector, it should be whoever gets the hole shot. I know my war could not catch my brothers 136 viper in the powder but on the hard pack I would reel him in easily.

i checked the plugs, they were fine. They recommend the spark plugs to be changed every 2500 miles or so, i changed them anyway and the old ones are now backup plugs. With the new plugs it runs much smoother then before. Probably going to turbo it next season. do they make turbo kits for the 06 nytro? thanks

- Bought a new 05 Vector which I still have
24K miles
An 06 Nytro has the carb'd 3 cyl motor that makes about 120 hp not 130 hp. As Maim mentioned it's geared lower because it's meant to be a ditchbanger sled, not a speed/lake racer sled. I'm only vaguely familiar with the 03 vintage Viper's but that 700 triple is a strong motor that likely has longer legs. Nytro should beat it off the line and that's about it IMO.
Nothing wrong with your plugs or anything like that. There is no magic clutching, piping, etc. that's going to get you 10 more hp. Yamaha did not leave much on the table on this drive train.
You wanna go faster? Buy an Apex.....yes you can put a turbo on it.....or re-gear it. For gearing, barnofparts.com (Travis) will have everything you need for a reasonable price.

I had a Viper S before my nytro. Two totally different animals. The nytro should take it to 50mph. But when those power valves kicked in my viper could haul a** and I'm sure would take my nytro. My S was slower off the line when I raced 600s. But by 5o I would take everyone of them. I like my 4 stroke but I miss that 700. Would've love to have a 600 or 700 di motor in that chassis.
