Okay, I read something about the bearing of one of the reduction gears was spinning in the outer layer, whcih grinded out aluminium from the engine housing.Remove the primary clutch and then remove the cover behind the primary clutch to access and have a visual of the gears. Since it didn't fail completely like the one I fixed, you should be able to fix everything without engine removal.

Did you buy the machine new?
Nope! I bought it three weeks ago. I didnt have a clue about this whining sound, until I searched for it...

Pretty sure my 09 gt with 4000kms makes the same sound idling as in the vid. Are we saying this is baad? I thought it was normal. Eek.

This issue was faulty reduction gears and there was a bulletin way back in 07-08

That's what I thought too. I'll record a vid of mine next week to make sure I'm not imagining things.

What was the problem with the gears? Poor mating?
Does anyone have the chassienumber interval of the sleds that have this issue?

All I hear is a slight whine when it's revved up a bit which sounds normal to me. And at 6000km, it would have blown up by now. The reduction gears on these blew up fairly early in their life at low KM, like the OP's did.

Mooseman may be right.
Again, I've always found noise in videos like this to be slightly different than if the machine was right beside me.
Could be normal but if it was mine, I would remove the side cover and visually inspect.
There was an affected VIN range as indicated by Yamaha, so you could check that also.

I agree with Mooseman. Run it. Mine make the same light whirring noise and has 20000mi on it. If really bothering you just pull the stubshaft and gear. The ones I saw the gear was actually burnt from being too tight.
