Has the grade of oil for the sidewinders changed? My manual says it requires 0W30 and the dealer only has 0W40 and insists thats what it takes.
0 40 or 0 30 all good !!!
I ran both no issues in all my Yamaha engine over the years!!!
I ran 0-20 redline in my Apex for years. It ran great and never any problems. Not so sure about running it in a turbo Sidewinder engine though. Most turbo auto manufacturers use 5-30 or 0-40 for their higher film strength. My Ford eco boost truck specs 5-30 and not 0-20 like the non turbo engines. So does this mean 0W20 is even better?
Most auto manufactures running 0w20 in a turbo (VW for example) are doing it pretty much to reduce their fleet fuel economy stats. The risk vs. reward is too great IMHO for use in a turbo'd sled.So does this mean 0W20 is even better?

My service manual says 0W30 and yamaha customer service said 0W30 semi synthetic last year so why are they pushing us on the 40 weight now is it because they dont have any 30 weight now and trying to sell what they have?2020 service manual says 0W-30.
Edit: so does my '19 service manual.
Ya i went though all those posts last year and decided to run what the manual says for the 20 year warranty, now the dealers are saying they dont make 0W30 any moreLots of TY threads on oil. Just search 'em up and read for a week or two.
We can't confuse viscosity with protection (higher viscosity doesn't necessarily mean better lubrication/protection OR lower viscosity doesn't necessarily mean poorer lubrication/protection). It's all about the engineering of the molecules and the additive package. Tons of stuff on internet too. Could read for months.
