'15 Viper RTX LE disappointment grows

There isnt enough power to shift any further, simply shifting would only pull down rpm as you would be in too high of gear. I noticed my sled on the hoist with the belt removed is impossible to turn the track by hand. I think this is where we are loosing speed. It just does not roll easy and is eating power.

It's easy to clutch this engine compared to a two stroke due to the broad torque curve. Power is power and this engine has loads of torque in reserve.

We arent clutching to the torque curve on this one.

HP and Torque relevance varies.
Example, a 16 L cat truck motor will make 2,200 LB/FT of Torgue at 1,300 to1,500 RPM (not exact numbers) =544 to 628 HP in that RPM range.
All calculated from Torque x RPM.

Like titanrcr said, this is a VIPER not an Apex. Far too many people expect this machine to run like an Apex because this is the only new thing to come out from Yamaha in years. Most were previous Apex owners and bought this to replace it. Man were they in for a large disappointment when it came to top end.
Lets be realistic boys, its a Nytro in Cat's clothing.....sloooowwww!
Not gonna be an Apex, not even with the turbo!
I just replaced my 06' Apex with Ulmers Clutch Kit and Airbox mod with the '15 Viper RTX LE with Ulmers Clutch kit and MPI Turbo, I hope I am not disappointed. My wife has a '12 Apex with Ulmer's Clutch kit, I'm hoping I will pull a little stronger than Her. We'll soon find out:letsnow:.

I have had Attaks, Nytro, Apex XTX and now the 2014 Viper LTX SE. I bought my Viper full knowing it is a 600 class sled, 135 hp approximately. I really enjoy the ride of the sled and the handling. It has not skipped a beat. Do I miss my Apex power? Sometimes. But for the most part on the trails this sled is more than enough. A good chunk of trail riding occurs in the woods and fields not on lakes. Tell me why do I need anymore? I wonder if we are all missing something here. I guess I must be getting old. I going out to ride and enjoy the scenery and return home. My race days are behind me.

It's not really that some machines are just different and they DONOT perform the way they should. There is just something missing on mine.

I just want SNOW so I can say this as well!!

Having Had >14000 miles on Delta II chasis Apex, alot on Two Vectors and my growing favorite is the Venture GT with HONDO suspension mods- I must be getting old-comfortable on long cruising days. I am hoping I love the Viper in the woods, like to be even with the Vectors on the lake and I will be happy. Since I know longer own the APEX the real issue for me is to be equal to a little better then my Vectors on the lake. They have been 104 mph at best on a less accurate speedo.

Nothing is wrong with the shocks. But the shocks we got are not the ones that we were told that were suppose to get. We are supposed to have the rc2's on the front and hi- low withe rebound on the rear suspension.

With no snow I haven't went over the sled thoroughly yet but at first glance they look like the same shocks we were promised, what shocks are you saying r on there? I wish I was next to my sled cuz I would go look at them but I'm nowhere near it n now u got me worried

The most important ingredient is missing this season. SNOW!!!

If this was a power issue, the LE models with the higher ratio final drive should pull as much or more top speed and get there quicker. Instead we are seeing the opposite. Something has to be limiting the clutch shift to the same ratio making the sleds that are geared down run the same percentage mph slower. The sleds pull so hard up to 70mph that they can't just run out of power. There is plenty of available TQ it's just not being delivered.
