I have 1600 mi. on my rage and have had no wheel problems or hyfax problems. I always install SLP wear pads on the closed windows. They are easy to install and seem to help . Both my buddy and I had to loosen our tracks on our new sled the first time we rode. I have been trying to get new hyfax called Super Slippery slides, but haven't been able to get them long enough. I have used them before, and they are the best I have ever found. They have to be seasoned when you first put them on, but after that they work great. You will notice the difference immediatly when you put them on. Cost about $85. a pair. Hi-performance Engineering sells them.

Nothing to get all worked up about as it is just your track being too tight. Easy to adjust and correct.apexsledhed said:i thought 2-3 inches of snow was plenty. actually i do live in maine and we had 6 inches of ice.the apex is an 06 holdover that i just bought brand new had 0 miles when i unloaded it at the lake today. it just pisses me off no one else had any slider problems every brand was there.

Track too tight? Not. When my idlers delaminated my hyfax got smoked pretty quick, this was on 4~5 inches of snow where other sleds in my group had zero hyfax issues. My track was plenty loose. When the wheels blow, the hyfax will go. This is the mono way. Make them warranty it.

I haven't read all the posts on here, but let me add...
The 07's have the same Shi TTy wheels as the 06's did. So 90% of us, studded or unstudded smoked those inner wheels last year.
My buddy has an 07 RTX, his went, twice. His dealer finally put on the old RX1 plastic wheels, as did my dealer to mine last year.
He is also on his 3rd set of sliders.
I am still on my first set, 2000kms on them.

the other apex that was there had just put the larger wheels on the day before and those were trash in 10 miles, those were actually polaris wheels. so i don`t see how there would be a fix for the problem which irritates me ,you have a bullet proof motor but can`t ride the sled without trashing wheels and sliders. i wasn`t too concerned when i saw that my wheels were junk because i knew it was a known problem and the warrantee would replace them that was until we noticed my buddies wheels were junk also because that was how i was going to fix the problem but now what.

Have your dealers install the 04 RX1 wheels in the middle. They are ALL PLASTIC.
Yammy went with rubber due to complaints that the plastic was 'chattery'. Live with it, it's not noticable!!

The part about your wheels delaminating I totally understand. I rode an '06 Apex GT all last season and had to have mine replaced due to defective wheels. Easy fix in just a few minutes. The other stuff seems as though there are some set up issues. I had the same sled, same year, same state and rode almost 1700 miles on one set of hyfax, one belt, etc. Did you check your track tension? Who's your dealer? How did they react to what you said?

i haven`t been to the dealer yet they are closed until tomorrow. they are pretty good though. i had an 03 rx1 with cracked clutch sheaves and they got that warranteed. but are they just going to replace the bad wheels with some new bad wheels that are going to do it again. also to top off the day my check engine light came on and the temperature symbol. i know it is brand new and is tight but should it have run that hot. it came on in about a mile of riding i brought it up to 105 and then let off, the light then came on . at this time the sled had about 9 miles on it. i had problems with my old rx1 running hot and hope that i don`t have problems with the apex. does the auxillary fan come on before the light or after?

You need to check your coolant mixture....it could probably use some water!!!
Have the dealer put on the RX1 wheels...

Yeah, the same thing happened to me when my wheels delaminated and I was in 12 inches of snow and my hyfax got smoked. It still sounds like his track was too tight also.X-APE said:Track too tight? There are about a zillion threads on fixes for the wheels. Sounds like your dealer wasn't up to speed on these needing to be replaced. Again, no big deal as Yamaha will cover the fix. Good dealers will also provide and install a new set of hyfax.

This all kinda sounds like track maybe being a little snug , and I know you said your dealer is good, but If they didn't replace the stock wheels and check the mixture in the coolant, and all that little stuff, How good are they? Your sled was a leftover, Maybe they just forgot about the upgrades it needed, did you have different bars on it? Sorry to hear your pissed off with your sled.

yeah but what about the other apex that just put brand new larger polaris wheels on his and they lasted 10 miles.i put the larger polaris wheels on my rx1 and never had a problem. i wish i still had the stock wheels but i threw them all away. stupid question how do you check the coolant mixture. in the coolant tank with the ball type gauge but does that tell you the mix(too much antifreeze).thanks

Checking the coolant has been a heated discussion on here before some say the regular cheapo gauge from the auto store works fine others say a high tech one costing $$$ works best. I use the cheap one and it works fine for me. there are also additives to mix in the coolant as well, Someone will chime in on those, (I forgot). As far as the Polaris wheels on your buddies sled, something just doesn't seem right for that to happen.

When you take the sled into the dealer to have the wheels replaced under warranty, ask them to check the coolant level. They should have the right equipment and should do it for free. Chances are good that your coolant to water ratio is too high.
I rode well over 500 miles on Polaris wheels after my Yamaha wheels delaminated. I had to use Polaris wheels because Yamaha wheels were out of stock. I had no problems with the Polaris wheels, so I agree with Throttle Jockey that something else must have been wrong.

apexsledhed said:i rode 11 miles today on the lake with 2-3 inches of snow. the two inner wheels are completely chewed off and the sliders are almost junk. had to lift the sled and step on the track to get the sliders unstuck. on my rx1 i put the larger wheels to fix the slider problem but never had a problem chewing up idler wheels. a buddy of mine went today and just replaced all small wheels with the larger ones and had no slider issues but his two inner wheels were chewed up in 10 miles.
Wheels are covered by warranty, anytime they are riden in low snow conditions they may chew up on the 06's, we have 0 miles on the 07 so I can't tell you in regards to that.
My wife didn't use a single set up on the 06 Attak, I rode it for 650 miles in Quebec already and have put a new set on it after the 1st trip and some of the riding was in marginal snow. Woody, my dealer in topsham just gave me a new set no questions asked.
