2004 RX1 waterpump leaking

HI Guys,

I recently took my 04 RX!1 out cleaned and started it after running a little i noticed antifreeze dripping at the front below the clutch i looked could not see it so i took the belly pan out and i see it dripping at the hex bolt on the water pump dont know if it is comming from some where else. Has anyone ever had this issue and how do i go about fixing it? do i have to pull the motor? if yes can anyone post a link on how to pull the motor.

did you recently fill the resevior? Rx1's tipically dont have much in the res. and when filled to mark and warmed up, they usually will leak out

NO I did'nt fill it up, If u ment it will overflow when filled to the mark. its leaking on the clutch side and i see it just at the water pump metal tube that comes out of it. Its tough to see but when i took the belly pan out i see it there.

ok, I would drain and flush it with water. Let it completely dry and watch for leak. Since it is water now, you will know it is leaking.

Ok where do i drain it form is there a drain plug for the antifreeze? it only drips when the motor run does not have to get hot i taught i would let u know!!.

If the seals are bad you do have to pull the engine to replace. If you do it yourself ask for help on here, if you have a shop do it have a qualified shop do it. They HAVE to remove the oil pan which you dont on the motorcycle R1 so if they sell more bikes then sleds make sure they follow the manual my shop didn't and they ruined the engine...

Ok I think the seals (orings) are Leaking I am thinking of doing it myself. I think i have to pull the seat, fuel tank, and exahust mainfold before the engine comes out. If anyone could can u guys post the steps in removing the engine that would be helpful.

Getting the engine out isn't that bad, getting that waterpump serviced is a PITA. It attached to a long shaft that has a gear and chain on it that drives the oil pump. Get the service manual and look up engine removal, follow that and mark every bolt that comes off in a baggie. Then use the manual to R&R the pump, then you will be fine. Nothing is painfully hard just have to be patient and double check your work.

i see where the water pump is leaking. there is a little looks like a vent hole on the housing its leaking trought there any advice on how to fix it. i will try to attach a pic. its the hole next to the bearing.

That looks like the weep hole in the water pump housing. If coolant is dripping from there, your (11H-12438-10-00 SEAL, MECHANICAL) is bad and letting cooland seep past the impeller shaft. The pump will have to be split in two to replace that. I would replace all o-rings and seals on the pump while it's out.

hey guys got kinda stock removing the motor i have gear case, steering, tank seat engine frame and coolant system disconnected and out. My problem is i see 2 engine mound on the front that i can get to but i also see 2 in the back how do i get to those 2?. Also do i have to disconnect the exahust from the motor and piped Too (flex pipes).

how do i lift the engine out i see no hooks on the motor?

The rear motor mount is a LONG bolt that goes from one side to the other. Loosen the oil tank side and push out the clutch side. Very easy.

Yes remove flex pipes from head and reuse the exhaust gasket.

I used a ratchet strap wrapped around the block head of the engine to pull it out. Its not bad to lift once your sure everything is free.

ok Thanks finally got the motor out dropped the oil pan and oil pump and i removed the the water pump time to rebuild it now will post on progress.

Rebuild the water pump and put everything back together ran fine no leaks Looks like i am ready for some snow at least much more than last season.
