2005 RX1 MCX rear mount

Running it without your turbo isn't going to accomplish anything. Get the A/F gauge hooked up and get us some numbers . Also it wouldn't be a bad idea to do a compression test to find out what the inside of that engine is like.

Ken................

Didn't check timing, will do some reading and do that next. Thanks

That happened to me twice before and had similar symtoms. First time while setting up the turbo without the A/F meter, had a huge backfire and the timing chain skipped one tooth on the sprocket. Second time was when the belt let go, took out my primary, had a huge backfire and it did the same thing.

Thinkin about the timing, if it jumped a tooth, wouldnt it be running like crap through the entire rpm range? Guess i have to post vid to you tube then a link to it here. Ill do that when i get home so you can hear the symptom. Regards

This is what i found for checking timing. Or are we talking about using a timing light? Please advise.

Here is something odd as well, the fuel pressure drops in the lower to mid range. Please check it out.
Yes, not sure about the botched handle bar riser job. Seems pretty dodgy to me but i will fix up the cosmetics of the sled if i get it running correct.

How much boost are you running ? Did the previous owner have problems with it too ? Maybe there's a good reason as to why he sold it.

Ken.........

Yes ken, i had my brother go check it out. He said it had a bog in bottom end. I bought it in this condition. So yes the previous owner had the same problem. I wont be able to get the bung welded in till Sunday. Not much room to weld it back by the turbo either. Is there a better place?
I'm going to try to get better vid of it. Also what the fuel and boost are doing while its stumbling

Update! After looking at the fuel pressure dropping at 3-4k RPM, I decided to up the fuel pressure. The hesitation is gone! I was getting a better vid of the symptom and was not expecting the results from upping the fuel pressure. When I punched it, it scared me to the point I let off the throttle. Insane is all I can say. I will get the bung welded in Sunday and fine tune it. Thanks for all the help. Very appreciated, you are all a great resource.

Ok, so the aeromotive 13301 can use vacuum or boost for reference. So I found one and picked it up. Also got the AEM A/F meter. Thanks all for the help, if I had know the four stroke turbo was so difficult I may have let this one alone haha. I will post results, cheers!

Once you get the bugs worked out and get some experience on it you'll be upping the boost. Get used to having sore arms from hanging on and a grin from ear to ear. One thing to do is make sure the bolts that hold the handlebars tight are good and tight or the bars will end up back by your chest. Have fun and be safe.

How did you make out? Was it the Fuel Pressure?

If you need information of RX-1 boosted have a look in rxrider's turbo garage, link in my signature.

Great to hear you figured out the fuel pressure issue.

IMO the plastic caps need to be replaced With billet ones.
I have done the sanding over and over again only to have them start leaking again.
They Warped after a 1000 ft. climb.
You ned to change the plastic T-s With billet tees, the plastic ones will leak air under pressure resulting in uneven fuel delivery between the carbs.
I had to glue the rubber seals on the chocke to the carbs to keep them from blowing out.
I run 4.5 lbs of fuel pressure at idle. Pressure will rise 1:1 so at 10 lbs of boost fuel pressure will be 14.5 lbs.
I run 127.5 main jets, 17.5 pilot jets, 2 turns out on the pilot screws.
Needle in Stock #3 position.
Boost Level is 22 lbs.
One more thing, make sure you syncronize the carbs at least once a year, at the start of the season f.ex.

Indeed it seemed to be poor fuel delivery. I think the pump may be on the way out. I had to increase it to 7-8psi at idle to get the sluggish symptom to go away.
I agree on the billet caps. I will invest in some if I keep the sled. Since these a
Sleds are now old news, will there be anywhere I can still purchase them?
