2007 phazer rad fan install

The only problem with using a manual switch is the possibility of forgetting to turn it on. Wouldn't it be better to find someone that's parting out a sled and getting the proper wiring? Or, is the wiring there from the PCM to command the relay? If so, possibly try to tap into that wire to turn on a relay automatically? Maybe the relay plug is already there without a relay in it? Or the wire from the PCM is there?

It is my understanding that there are no provisions for a fan/fan relay on in the 07 base phazer wiring harness. A new harness cost ~ $400 plus install. You may be able to get a used one from a scrapped sled somewhere. Probably an easier route is to get a thermal switch and switch housing designed to be installed in an existing rubber coolant hose. The switch will open when the specified temp is reached. Install a relay and this switch will trigger the relay, turning on the fan. That would be a nice thorough solution.

I did not have any problem remembering to turn my fan on or off. It's got a light built in, so even at night, you know when it is on. When you shut the sled off, the fan sounds like a 747 so there is no way to miss that it's running. I guess the only question is, does running the fan all the time potentially damage the motor by reducing temps too much? I have no idea.

I have an '07 base model without a fan and have never needed it. The only time I have had the temp light come on is after playing in the powder then idling through town to get gas.

It is my understanding that they are equipped with a shut down feature if engine temperatures get too high.

Only if you are idling and it gets too hot, if your ridig it will not shut down the sled.

There are also fan add on car kits with sensors that go into the rad. Adjust it at the temp you want it to come on and you're done. There is also usually a connection for a manual switch and for A/C.

I have an 07 base phazer. I bought in new and was having problems with the overheat light coming on. I complained to Yamaha and they sent me all required pieces for the fan at no charge. It was a pain swapping out the wiring harness but worth it if you have some time.

Its worth a try even on a old sled.Think about it.How does a fan become a option? If it is necessary on the higher cost models it makes sense it would be needed on a base model. The snow is same.Yamaha knows this and has proven to me at least that they are willing to fix this issue.Just takes a few minutes to go through the steps.

Inform dealer and see what they will do

If not satisfied with dealer call Yamaha with number provided by dealer and explain

If still not satisfied write letter to Yamaha

These steps provide data to Yamaha and do get results.Must be business like about it and try not to take any letdowns personally.

Good luck!
