I'm new to the late model phazer game.
I have an old 1984 Phazer I that has been a ball...1.25" rack, risers, plastic skis... a real goon machine
2 weeks ago i bought a 2009 Phazer RTX with 1600 miles.
Looked to be in good shape.
Turns out looks are quite deceiving.
I'm building this sled to replace a 2003-2007 rev chassis sled, which (until proven otherwise) is the best handling trail sled i've ever ridden.
I have had 20 trail miles on a phazer and i was very unimpressed.

So far this is what i have accomplished or at least ordered:
New track 121 x 1.25 (will cut down to 14" wide)
New sliders
2 new top bogie wheels
4 new lower bogie wheels
copper exhaust donuts
New header on one side (was previously broken)
Bushman steering bushing kit
Bushman spindle kit for stock skis
Ulmer Oilite A Arm bushing kit
FrogSkinz airbox filter things
Suspension sent to schmidt brothers to get freshened up, and revalved for me
Schmidt sway bar
Schmidt ball joint mod and bolt kit
Here are my questions:
1. How do you install the headlight cover back down? the rear plug things look impossible to seat back down into the side panels... any tricks?
2. Does anyone know what the dimension differences are from the stock ski bushing kit, versus C&A or some other/better skis?
a. What carbides are best for the stock skis? I refuse to spend $100 (or more) on carbides... because if i spend that much i'll just get some used C&A or something (Yes, i've read the FAQ)
b. Does anyone have a slam dunk recommendation for aftermarket skis? Slydogs sound best...
One drawback so far, is that i'm terrified that this little 500 is going to be way under powered.
I'll be keeping it to the southern NH trails, where going 50-60mph is dangerously fast
I will not bring it up to the big trails, where 70-80mph is sustained.
I'm 200lbs and 6'1" tall
mechanically inclined, and i'm spending boat loads of $$ on this little thing in hopes that it will keep me entertained.
What other mods am i missing?

My thoughts:
1. You just push the headlight cover back down. Some people grease the rubber grommets to make it easier. I installed bolts in place of the grommets and use knobs to secure it.
2. Sorry can't help with that one.
3. I like Studboy Shaper bars. Made a huge difference on stock skis. But they are expensive but worth it.
4. I put Curve XS skis on mine. Good trail manners and off trail floation.

2007 Yamaha Phazer GT
I went with 6"
I really like the 6.9 Pilots with Shapers on Phazer. If you keep to the 6omph trails this sled is a blast!

Yamaha MTX skis are a good option too.
You are about the same hight as me so I’d recommend a 2.5” riser. I have a Lake Effects one and they are really nicely made.
Regarding the power, Yamaha left a lot in the clutching. Ulmer’s kit is a good starting point
