2010 AK sled projects

I should but no, Im just going to leave it for the rest of the year and we'll see what the summer brings.

Couple better pictures of the completed front end. Its just spray painted since I don't want to take the time to get it powder coated.

Oh yeah I had a incident with a tie rod on Sunday :o|

I went to put it in the lower mounting holes today and had to do a little grinding to get it to work, but I think it will handle better this way since I'm using 18" shocks.

I'll be dropping more pressure from my front shocks as well.

just curious did you notice any difference in the sled with the relocated shock mounts

Are you talking about them being moved father out on the so arm? If so then yes, I'm running 30 psi less then I did before. It made it's a lot stiffer and since I'm running 18" shocks my ride height is back down where it should be. I dont mind the high front end for handling but the ski pressure is so much that I could not compensate enough for it in my skid. I've still got major skid issues but at this point in the season it's time to quit messing with this sled and focus on next years version. :drink:

Finally got some time in my life to start on my hood again. I'm about 70% done with the mold now. This will be a one piece hood/console and a lot sleeker than the factory one. Should completely eliminate the fat looking front end of these sleds.

Caleb:

Wow man and holy s*#t! There is no way you guys ever sleep.

Being out of commission as the knee heels, I finally got a chance to follow this thread from beginning to end and I was contantly amazed.....that steering solution was absolutely brilliant.

I think Yami should get you and rlcofmn for the nytro R&D team, and man, do I hope they have a good look at this thread.

Great job guys and thanks.

OTM

After going to all the trouble of making a mold are you going to mass produce these for Tyer's to purchase??

The 2012 rlcofmn nytro will be one for yamaha's R&d department. Yamaha engine is staying and the resOot of my nytro is heading to the weeds for a grave sight.

I'll post some pictures in the next couple weeks. It's still in the design phase but will be cool.

I've got a lot more tools, far better shop, a month longer building season, and I'd like to think I have learned a lot in the past year. So it should be a fun build.

Maybe time for a new thread? There are rumors that there will be another sick Nytro build in AK this summer as well.

I'll test fit the first hood on a factory sled and if it clears the steering post I'd be willing to make them for TYers. It'd be mid summer though, I want to get a vacuum setup put together so the hoods come out lighter and cleaner. I'm also using carbon fiber this time instead of fiberglass.

Here's a couple more pics after two layers of bondo and resin. I need to bondo one last time to touch up a couple areas but then it should be good to go.

I'm curious to see what you're plans are Rick.

I had plans this winter for a full 4130 tube chassis but I think I'm going to scrap that idea and start working on a full foam core carbon fiber chassis instead. I'd like to get into CF more and I think a foam core chassis would be incredibly strong, lightweight, and relatively easier to build than making a mold of the chassis.

Narrow the whole thing up to have an inside tunnel width of 15.5". Keep the direct steering and simplify the subframe/bulkhead as much as possible. Incorporate the gas tank and add spars from the steering hoop to the upper shock mounts. Eliminate the front cooler and move the engine towards the rear about 2". Some of the front and side plastic could be built into the sled to add rigidity and reduce the number of parts/fasteners. Use the Polaris drive train I have which would lower the driveshaft about 1" for a better approach angle. It'd even be possible to embed to the inner chaincase half in the resin/CF and make it one piece like the current Nytro bulkhead.

Anyway, those are the thoughts for now and they're always changing. I'm really curious to see what Rick has planned.

That would be absolutely sick Caleb, CF is where its at. I agree with the Foam core that makes it nice. I want to play around with a little CF on this build but nothing major at all just flat pieces instead of some aluminum. Just to try it and it would look cool.

If tomorrow goes as well as today maybe I'll have some pictures.

I think I changed my mind on what to do with my old chassis and I want to turn it into a XTX stocker if I can come up with the parts and a second engine cheap enough. Im kinda addicted to Hillclimb racing so I would really like a sled to run in the stock class's. I need to get more run's next year to be able to back up sh!t talking.

Due to some things that have happened by the mods on this sight I have deemed it Snowested http://snowested.urbanup.com/5369035

I refuse to post on a sight that is not a free forum and that has innocent G rated post's deleted without notification or explanation.

I spend a ridiculous amount on this sight and I am sad to leave. But I will be on here far less now and will be posting even less. My new build will be on Backcountryrebels.com, I will post a link once I get it going.

It's been fun, sorry to see the sight ran like Snowest, Christopher rides a Yamaha maybe they have him running this sight too :o|
