2010 AK sled projects

And boredom set in once again. I do have an extra die cast frame or I wouldn't have done this, but IMO, all the strength is in the ridged areas so I really don't think I'll have any issues. Every ounce counts...

I picked up some 1/8 aluminum for the rear drop brackets so I should have those, the cooler, and steering post done this weekend.

Brackets are 1/8"

I doubled the bottoms where the skid will bolt through. Just need to do a little welding and I should have them in the tunnel tomorrow.

I don't think I'll end up using the lower two holes in which case I'll cut the bottom of the brackets off. I wanted to give myself some mounting options since I don't have the skid yet.

Looks really good Caleb!!! I really like to be different but unfortunately mine may look very similar :( running out of time and money for suspensions and I have all the cat skid stuff sitting here collecting dust. Every design I work on keeps pointing me in the direction of a deisign like the Cat float or Holz alpha and I dont have time to re-invent the wheel. If I can get rid of that K mod I will be mixing it up a bit with the cat skid though.

The rear brackets only weigh 1 lb 1 oz. ea. Steering post pieces are being cut tomorrow so I can finally finish that up.

Aircraftspruce.com and Aircraft Tool and Supply are both good websites. They're called clecos.

I decided to ditch the IQR cooler and ordered the CMX kit this morning. Can't beat it for the price. His cooler extrusion has fins on both the outside and inside so it's quite a bit more efficient. The new cooler will extend all the way back to the end of the tunnel extension which will make it about 11 ft. total length. It's also 1 1/2" wider than the IQR extrusion.
