Riding last night in 4-8" of snow and temp light was coming on. Light comes on after about 15-30 minutes of riding. I checked the engine coolant, oil, air filter, heat exchanger and fan fuse. There is a small dent in the heat exchanger, but everything else looks good. Going to ride it again and see if light comes on and then check the cooling fan. Anybody got anything else to check?

You should check the strength of your coolant if you haven't already.
I should add that I have about 900 miles on it this season and last night was the first time this happened.

Get some scratchers. Your not throwing enough snow into the skid.
Just rode to a buddies, light still coming on. The fan is working.

Did you check the level of your coolant?
Coolant level in radiator and plastic tank is good. Maybe just a bad sensor. Been riding in MI for 800 miles on trails this season and now at home in powder and the light comes on.

I had the same problem.
Riding in 2-4ft of powder and get and overheat light kept coming on. At the end of it i was get 2 other codes which i cant remember now but it was caused by a short in the wiring harness.
Behind the primary clutch theharness was shorting out on a motor mount. Moved it as much as i could and zip tied it and problem solved

A few inexpensive things to try;
1. thin out the coolant with Water Wetter by Redline Performance (I think that's who makes it)
2. make sure you bleed all the air out of the coolant system (I have to raise the nose of the sled for this. Don't know why but it works for me)
3. scratchers to throw more snow up on exchanger
If that doesn't work add the mountain exchanger (problem solved for sure)

Mine comes on periodically also, even when you think you are in good enough snow conditions. It seems to come on when you are heavy in the throttle. Never had a problem. Back off on the throttle and the light usually goes off. Coolant and oil are full.

I've only got my light to come on idling in the garage tinkering with stuff or really pounding on it in warm weather. I must be a lucky one.......
Try a lighter coolant mix........

For the Ohio area a -30 coolant freeze level is adequate. If you don't have a Antifreeze Hydrometer you can pick one up at at most automotive stores or even places like Walmart. They are inexpensive. If the coolant level freeze point is lower than -30 then drain some out through the lower radiator hose and add distilled water or just dump all the antifreeze through the lower hose then add new 50/50 blend. Adding additives like Water Wetter offers very little help. The bottom line is that the cooling capacity on the Nytro is to small and adding an extra heat exchanger like the Yamaha mountain exchanger will disipate enough heat to correct the problem. Adding vents to the cowl area will also help improve air flow through the engine compartment and also aid in temperature reduction.
The extra heat exchanger will be added with the mcx turbo but I was trying to see if I had something wrong before I add the turbo. I'll check the coolant mix, just wandered why the light now comes on after all the riding I have done and everything seems fine.

sorry for this post steal but I used to live where the temperature was -10 and that was the coldest it would ever be. Moved to a much colder climate now and wondering if it do hit -50 do I have to worry about coolant freezing?
