2012 Yamaha's

What I heard was Yamaha bought into the Diamond Drive system and will be putting them on the 2012's. I hope they have better luck than Arctic Cat did with it.

If that is true they may as well buy exploding Rotax engines to go with it.

Cat has a US patent on a planetary gear reduction set-up. I think they had trouble with DD because they cheaped out on some of the components. Still I'd rather see yamaha develop some sort of direct drive/weight savings in house.

I'm ready for a > new radical chassis to better balance the machine,i know yamaha is capable-its about time.we do have the heaviest engines in the snowmobile world.wonder if they could lay the engines low and horizontal? 2012 is here in no-time,a few things will pop-out i think..
Are they? I think any of the four stroke engines are heavier. Maybe do a check on the other four strokes. I think you will find that the 660 cat and the 1200 doo are just as heavy.

how about the fact they use a plastic plug to prevent dd oil from coming out, ingenious

I am hoping for something big. All the Nytro got this year was BNG and an unwarranted $300.00 price increase. A nytro with front dump exhaust, better skis, a bigger gas tank and 20 less pounds would be sweet.

Don't know why anybody would want front exhaust? Having driven a 1200 doo, that thing was a boat anchor on the front. Yamaha 4-strokes have superb weight balance.
Before the start of current 4-stroke era, yamaha ran instrumented test mules and discovered that the weight of a rearward exhaust makes for a better handling sled. They then patented the rearward exhaust.

Tracks rubbing on ice is why. Even with the rear of the tunnel blocked off I still get more ice build up in the tunnel then I should. Got to listen to my track rubbing yesterday for about 40 miles. I did not have anything with me to chip away at it so I took a chance riding it anyways. We rode in pow all day Wednesday and it was below zero that night. Ice ice baby...

Lift back of sled and drop, Ice falls out....

As someone who has had Cats and Yammies, the DD is a great system, very smooth.

It's the secondary clutch that Cat uses on DD sleds that robs all the speed, if you convert to old Style Cat Secondary that I think uses a Compression Spring instead of a Torsion Spring, all the lost speed comes back.

The DD secondary can't sense changes in load very well and won't back shift, causing the sleds to fall flat on there face on anything other than glare ice.

Cat had to change the secondary so it would work when you reverse the motor to go backwards.

As that is not easily doable on a 4 stroke, hopefully Yammie is able to use there existing secondary and do the gear change inside the DD.

We get some tunnel icing too. We knock any of the big stuff lose at the end of the day. Next morning, we run the sleds in reverse first to discharge any loose ice. Once underway, if we get track rubbing, dropping into reverse usually takes care of it. A small rubber mallet does wonders.
It might not be cold enough around here for ice to be a big problem though.

New sled blog, just up.

This is true. After installing my turbo to Nytro it handles better because the more weight in the back.

His words tell me Yamaha will soon market a new entry level sled for those new to the sport and maybe a sled to compete with the Z120. Those would be great moves by Yamaha. Awesome moves.
