It would be cheaper if it were just a fuel injected Vector motor(no R&D save for the electronics). You automatically loose the weight of the gear reduction using the Vector motor. And possibly the biggest factor, no vibration to speak of. Use the Phazer to bring new blood to the sport and the tripple to convert the pre-existing.
It would be interesting to see the weight difference between the Vector motor and an equivilant hp twin.
They don't hire and fire R&D guys from project to project, It's called overhead. A EFI twin may fit into the long term goals better than the tweener triple.

I know of what they speak of...
And if they want it to compete with the Rev in the bumps they need it to be a twin to keep it as light as possible...
This is spose to be the year BRP introduces their new "rev" so if Yamaha wants to be #1 they got to be competive in all the segments, and currently in high hp ditch bangers they have a long way to go...The Phazer is a nice start though.

My guess is the tripple with fuel injection, couse they had it in the snocross testing last year, and 10 extra horses wouldn't be a problem it had alot more but that's racing versions, and because the non clutch reduction.

I think the best course of action ... (I'm sure Yamaha will listen to me...LOL) is to build a larger twin. The Phazer is built essentially by combining two YZF250 engines adding EFI and getting 500cc 80hp. Combine two YZF 450 engines add EFI get 900cc 120hp with almost no weight increase .... simple.

Why would they make another 120 when they already have one? Would be better to bore out the phazer by 7.5mm to get a nice 100hp 600cc. The difference between 80 and 120 is BIG.

No matter what the HP # is I don't see how they would get a tripple in their. Second is the weight- A vector is only 11 lbs lighter than a apex and the apex has gear reduction and a extra cylinder. I think the phazer is going to get a bigger twin and I think the vector's days are numbered unless they give it apex ergoes. weight is king and job 1 should be thinking of ways to drop the weight even further.
Its like Yamaha's video this year....The apex and vector come from road bike technology and the phazer is dirt bike tech. who cares about what they allready developed in the 3 cylinder engine. its not right for the phazer application. Now after all that watch the damn thing have a 3 holer in it...? If rumors are true we'll know by the end of the month.

That is a Phazer with Vector panels. Phazer suspension, Phazer tunnel and a 120 Triple. This is the next generation. Panels will change.
