2014 viper not charging

What’s the failure rate on the motors that have this issue? I can account for all but one sliver, who knows where that’s ended up

I have never heard of one failing after just fishing parts out of pan, stator and flywheel but I have seen the parts get into oil pump. Tough call.

I’ll take some picture tonight, my motor is on the bench with the pan off. There are very fine mesh screens over the oil pump pickups that would keep anything larger than a grain of salt from going through the pump. I dropped the pan in the chassis last year and fished a small magnet on a stick around the pan and caught all the pieces. The Aftermarket stator I bought fried so I yanked the motor this time to make sure all the chunks were gone, didn’t find anymore!

Oh, forgot to mention, make sure you get an updated reduction gear! Even with your mileage you might want to run the repairs by your dealer and see if Yamaha will cover at least the parts.

If you don't mine me asking, why wouldn't it work with the pig tails. To jump it you would have to take every think apart on the trail
Because the wiring is made for low amperage. Could melt wires or blow fuse. Just take seat off.

Can you jump one sled to another using the pig tails that connect to the battery with jumper cables.

I disagree, I've jumped a sled with a low battery by connecting jumpers to the 2 "pigtails." That's what they are for.

The pigtails are on a Apex, Attak, Venture Etc because the battery is buried, but for a newer Viper I would remove the seat and connect to the battery.

Those pigtails on Apex are intended for jumping. Way bigger wire than the batt charger pigtails.

You have a pair of these screens on the oil pump pickups. Took under an hour to just drop the pan and fish a magnet around, took about 2 hours to pull the motor and I don’t know how long to re-install yet, waiting for the OEM stator and gaskets to arrive.

It’s not a bad job, basically drain the oil, remove the muffler, and a few oil lines gives you access to the side cover. I’d say 2hrs if your handy.

I am trying to remove the side cover to gain access to side cover. Side cover is loose but it won’t pull off. Seems to be stuck. Any suggestion? Is there a wire cluster I need to pull?

The magnets are very powerful. I used a bolt screwed into the timing inspection hole and pulled as straight out as I could.

Thank you

Stator is out. As predicted there is part of a tooth missing from the starter reduction gear and the stator is chewed up.

Turn it in to dealer even if not warranty. They need to let Yamaha know and maybe Yamaha will cover it seeing they are supposed to be a "Engine Company"!
