I don't see them being able to replicate that again with a 4-stroke motor. If they do they will have something very special and I'd buy one.
Phazer II
As reviewed by Popular Mechanics, the 1990 Phazer II has a 485-cc Yamaha Twin engine capable of 53 horsepower and can travel at 80 to 85 miles per hour. It features T.S.S. (telescoping strut suspension), similar to a motorcycle fork, to reduce drag. It is 103.5 inches long, 32 inches wide and weighs 406 pounds. The track length is 6 feet 6 inches and it is 15 inches wide. The Phazer II can carry 8.2 gallons of fuel. Its original price was $4,549.
406 pounds for a 485 cc fan cooled sled putting out 50 to 55 hp with limited suspension travel! Had a couple of them for beaters ... knees in your chest, hard on the back, smelly - were fairly quick though and 485 fan was considered a big sled in that period - sorry but my vote is for the new style phazer .... no comparison! Ergos depend on riding style / terrain .and a 485 fan sled is now considered to be "entry level" and way smaller than 600 / 800 cc liquid cooled 2 S or most 4 S which are 1000cc + (except phazer and ACE).
The '84 was revolutionary. Under 400lbs, light weight, snappy power and could literally ride circles around an Indy in deep snow. The Phazer II is typical Yamaha. Wait way too long to update their sled(6 yrs) and then make it heavier. It had some good features like being a little wider and went to 121" and 136" tracks but it was already becoming obsolete. You must have selective memory because all sleds from 1990 featured the same ergos.
I'm sure Yamaha had greater sales with the Phazer II than they ever did with the 4 stroke Phazer and its worthless for deep snow 14" wide track. They should have just produced variations of the Venture/MPV Phazer as its chassis was wider to allow for a wider, more practical track. I hope the Phazer is dropped for '14 along with the Nytro and they are replaced with something lighter and more similar to the competition in the ride and handling depts.

I have to admit that if it is simply a Procross chassis that is blue witha Nytro engine...I will be highly dissapointed. But not because I don't like the Procross...I actually love it. And not because I don't like the Nytro engine...I love that too. I will be dissapointed because I simply love seeing new chassis and motors come out to advance our sport. If this is a Nytro engine in a Procross chassis...then lets be honest guys...we get NOTHING NEW here. Which is exactly what we have come to expect from Yamaha. Simply no focus or investment in the snowmobile market. Mixing and matching components from existing iron does not move anything forward.
Now if Yamaha is licensing Cat's suspension tech, chassis tech, etc....and building some NEW with it...then I might finally be able to get back on my beloved Yamaha. If its a Procross with a Nytro engine, count me out.

No cross contamination from cat.
lol you are wrong?
The industry first is a cross bread Yamaha motor in a cat chassis
Please enlighten us on how you know this is fact?
In 2002 I was one of the guys that thought Yamaha wasn't going four stroke. I was told be many people and refused to believe it. The same people have told me about this yamacat. It's real and in about 5 days you are all going to see it. I just pray Yamaha took cats chassis only and put there drive line and plastics on it. Otherwise it's going to be a total disaster.
I owned a procross. It's the biggest pile of junk out side of the motor suspention and chassis. The fit and finish is terrible. and quality of componants is brutal. The three things yamaha does right are motor, drive line and fit and finish. If Yamaha improved those areas of the procross you would have one badazz sled.

Im just hoping yamaha can come out with a sled for under 8,000 so us financially depressed people can get a chance at buying a new sled once.

Power steering was a "game changer" industry first. What about abs on a sled? Might be nice not having that track lock up and ripping on your studs. It would also save you the effort of tapping your brakes lightly all the time to prevent lock up.

Sad to see though.jtssrx said:yamaha1973 said:jtssrx said:7 skulls said:Chris Reid has stated on the blog: The blue is true for 2014.
