This is my first post on this subject. You guys have way to much time on your hands.Do you all have no snow??? LOL
Can someone tell me what the advantage to using sheet aluminum and the heat exchanger for the frame would be compared to the cast pieces used on the Yamahas chassis?I think the places the a-arms,steering components, suspension geometry and suspension itself are mounted to chassis is what makes a cat handle and ride.Things easily changed by factory Yamaha if they want.Problem I see is that even Cats suspension is out of date when compared to Doo and the R motion.

Maybe it's a GPS speedometerRX1MPete said:Industry first....that sounds pretty hardcore to me. The leaning sled design as shown pages ago could very well be it.
I can't think of anything else that would be a first.

Might as well
I might as well chime in on this Looooooong thread. I am not a Yamaha loyalist. I have several Yamaha products and they all do what I expect of them. Some better than others. (Can you believe a 1984 200 cc 4 wheeler...see photo). Moto 4, still runs like a top. I also ride a Harley Davidson in warmer times. Sooo that said... I am looking forward to whatever they put out in the sled department later this month. One thing for sure. If it doesn't have power steering, I won't be getting one. I posted this mostly to help the thread reach 100. It's been fun reading all the "ideas" on what's next.

I am definitely waiting to see whats up for 2014 and most likely buying a 2015 new. If I am not impressed with the new I will be looking for a under 5000km 2012 Apex XTX, STD, or SE doesn't matter for 10k or under.

Re: where
Yep the more I look at this "You will hear about this industry first" the more I think they are talking about throwing a Yamaha engine in a Cat. I so hope I am wrong... but they are saying "hear" and they are talking "industry" so something seems a bit strange about this.
I guess just a few more days until we get either a revolutionary new Yamaha or a sorta new (3 model years old by next year) belt-eating fake Yamaha.

Here is a wild quess based on the Yamaha teaser picture..
Wasnt there a letter beeing linked to (or an interview) that snowmobiling should be more like dirtbikes, the patented tilting sled featured a V shaped track, and there was also a fiscal report saying working closer with 3rd parties.. So maybe Yamaha will have the first factory Mountainhorse ( www.timbersled.com )
Chances of this happening is mayne 0.5% but heck it would be cool

Wow I never would have guessed the Viper name coming back. So for the new version will they call it the PIT VIPER!!!
For those that don't know where the ad came from it was from Yamaha. If you are on their email list it's in your in box. The snake is interesting. Hard to believe they'd introduce an "industry first" using a snake type name. The Viper was overhyped when it came out and was kind of a flop. I remember reading lots of bashing posts about people complaining it rode too stiff. Yamaha actually had some type of update to change the shock valving. Just seems like they want to steer clear of anything to do with a snake.
