So it appears Yamaha will continue to use Arctic Cat chassis's till they use up their inventory of pure Yamaha Sleds.
So I have some Questions??
When do you think Yamaha will build the last Pure Yamaha Apex? ( I'd like to own the last year available)
When inventory is used up will Yamaha become a engine supplier only? ( it sure looks that way)
Are the Japanese capable of Leading in technology anymore?
KTM is close to kicking but in MX and the Japanese Car's don't seem to be any better than anyone else.
Yamaha has Done well in Moto GP, but what else??
I've ridden Yamaha Snowmobiles since 1972 on a GP433. Yamaha has always been a contender and leader in the industry.
But today they don't have the desire or the ability to lead, What a shame from a company with such a Proud History!
I hope history proves me Wrong
Your Thoughts??

As someone who owns both a subaru and a toyota right now, as well as owned quite a few in the past, I can speak on that part. Subaru's AWD system is the best in the industry, period, but it is also 30 years old. The japanese have never wanted to lead in technology, but they are great at putting existing technology to use to make a product that is absolutely rock solid reliable. Subaru and toyota both have legendary reliability, and of course that is why most of are here for yamaha...
Snowmobiles are simply far too small of a market... I'm in the camp that they may end up being an engine provider only at some point. Yamaha is a massive company, snowmobiles are probably the smallest division they have.

I am thinking in the near future we will see Yamaha as an engine supplier. I don't believe they make much money selling and building sleds anymore, not a big market. I also feel the quality of things such as cars is going down. Toyota is the perfect example of this. I drive a 02 sequoia and there is no way I could buy a new one and put 150k on it with as little issues as I've had with this one. Too much electronic garbage on cars now and they have to cheapen up everything else to make it sell. I'd rather see yammi get out than do what Toyota has done.

My personal opinion is that yamaha will get rid of their 'yamaha' inventory during the next 4 years of their 'agrement' with Cat and then they will become a motor supplier for Cat. This is NOT what I hope though, and I hope I am wrong. There is a couple of reasons that make me think this.
1. They are in bed with cat.
2. The snowmobile market is so small compared to other markets, they dont care about it because they arent making enough money.
3. Nytro is now gone, Phazer and apex will be next. I think like you that this is just a 'carry-over' to get rid of their inventory. They are also making huge money off the viper by using the cat chasis. Minimum R&D (it already existed). ALthough some people have said that Yamaha helped Cat with the Procross Chasis. Not sure how much weight I put in that though. But hey anything is possible!
You will get alot of opinions on here but no-one knows for sure, it is all speculation.

Personally idk if it's this big of a worry. Years ago they did same thing with sno jet. They are just getting a breather till they get feet back under them and retool for whatever the future sleds will be so they aren't stuck with the old rs-rx style stuff in the scrap yard.

I think you nailed it. They got caught sitting on their hands like Polaris did back in 03 when Yamaha, AC, and ski doo made revolutionary strides. Instead of rushing something new to the market(like Polaris with the conFusion) this AC deal and the viper are the answer until something new, tested and proven comes from japan. Same thing as 10 yrs ago only Yamaha is stuck where Polaris was. Really nothing to worry about I think

Snojet is a really bad comparison!! Its before my time, but Snojet is now extinct for a long time! That means Yamaha is def going to be extinct if you use that.
I like the polaris comparison better. lol

Newf I thing you are confused. Yamaha made engines for SnoJet same as they are for Artic. So the fact SnoJet is gone has no bearing on Yamaha. In fact using your logic it would mean Artic would be extinct.

Why worry? What will be will be... could make huge comeback ...could end it... just sell engines to whoever. Right now have Apex, Phaser & Vector for pure Yamaha & Vipers selling well. Why be concerned?... buy what you want plenty of good 4s out there Yamaha or non Yamaha. I don't know why you guys put yourself thru all this future BSing darn boring & total waste of time to me! What will be will be.... none of the guessing is constructive Yamaha not going to tip their hand until done deal whatever that might be. Crazy to worry about stuff out of your control.IMO

I just had surgery on my foot so I am couch cruising for a couple of weeks and off work. I am just bored. Lol This site gives me something to do and things to think about. I could really care less what direction Yamaha takes. Doesn't matter to me

Whitedust1 , sounds like you should work for Yamaha. Who Cares-right?? Well I care. I've been loyal Yamaha for 42 years. And I care about the company!. Any company that doesn't care about it's customers AND Their Loyalty is doomed. And what about their labor force? If Yamaha doesn't care will they have work??(Japan and US). I know a lot of people just switch brands every other year. Call me stupid for being loyal I guess.
I've got 9 Yamaha snowmobiles. From 1971 to 2005. I've restored some of my Dream sleds from the past including a 71 SR433. Yes, that sled Yamaha used to beat skidoo's 800 in the World championship in 71 .The sled that put Yamaha on the map as far as Snowmobiles go.
Sorry for losing it a little on here but what Yamaha does IS important to ME and Yes I'm Worried.

I worry about our sport when I look at two things:
1- demographic reports =>we snowmobilers are getting older, so future markets will be smaller
2-cost 10-15 grand, how can a young guy with a family justify that?
I know my son, and 2 son in laws would not be able to spring that kind of $ and still meet the family obligations. It will be very interesting to follow.
"Well worry is like a Rocking Chair: lots of movement and you don't get anywhere! "
So why bother, worry never added a minute to anyones life but it takes quite a few.
So vote, be curtious to land owners and non sledders so we can keep our sport.
My two cents

Yamadoo I agree. Sled I want is 14g so not even gonna look at that sled untill they are used 4 years from now. Me an father swapped sleds for awhile on a whooped out section of trail and once wrp seat is on I don't think it will be far enough off to justify. So for a lot less money my nytro will be all the sled I want. It's nuts to think ill need 10g to replace my sled with the next revision
