Yep that twin sound is annoying, I'll agree with you there. Boring however because it sounds like a john deere I don't think so!
More like a John Deere lawn tractor with a rusted, rotting muffler.
It's funny watching a well tuned 1100 Turbo, as we know if you get them dialed in they will go. But when you do watch a drag race and see the noisy lawn tractor groaning it's way to the front of the pack it just doesn't look or sound right. LOL!!

Ok, those wanting the Apex motor in a Viper chassis will see the Phazer motor in the Viper chassis........ half motor, half glass......... queue rimshot!

If so ( yes I kind of heard that rumor too) that should fill a nice hole for them. Now if true I hope the 90+ HP is also true to stay in line with the 900 ACE market. That would be a nice sled for the wife or kids no doubt.
Now let's say Cat drops the 1100 4 stroke engine and turbos the Yamaha motor for their top line machine.....It would seem ridicules for Yamaha not to have the same version. Now if that were to happen what would it mean for the Apex? Would they drop it or just carry it on with BNG. Hate to see it go away but I asked Pat's (#2 in Yamaha sales) how many 2015 Apex's he sold....just 4 this year. Only what was spring checked and they ordered no extras. I saw several brand new Vipers go out the door in the week I stayed behind his dealership early this month. That is what Yamaha is pushing. So if a dealer that moves product like that only sold 4 new Apex machines.....that doesn't sound good for its existence anymore. Unless they did what we all wish for and upgraded it.
I saw plenty of Apex's on the trail though and Pat's can't seem to keep any used ones around. But many of those customers were like me. Not willing to spend $12-15,000 on a new machine no matter what it is. The Apex models have been around now for 10 years and the first few years of them you can get for $3500-4500 in real nice shape.

I don't want you guys to think I hate the VIPER...I don't...they have a very nice ride, and handle well..I think they have a nice look to them too.....I just prefer a 100 percent Yamaha....I think too many people went out and bought Vipers expecting them to be FAST....I don't know what people are thinking...the nytro, or vector don't beat up on an Apex...so why do they expect the Viper to?? If yamaha comes out with a 4 cylinder apex replacement in the cat chassis....I still would have to take a look at it...I'm not gonna say NO or Never...in that Viper chassis it would definately be lighter...though I hope they keep the power steering...those of us who have it...really like it...imagine EPS on a Viper (I know some will say you don't need it)..again I want/like it...the only thing that would really bum me out...would be if CAT calibrated the EFI on an apex replacement...that is the one thing I dislike about the Viper...I thought the Nytro was calibrated perfectly (EFI and clutching)...I think that is why some people are upset with the Viper...it's a bit flat compared to the Nytro..and I think cat took that motor backwards somewhat....both in fuel economy, and performance....i'd hate to see that happen with an apex replacement.
I don't believe a new apex is coming this year....phazer replacement?? Probably....I don't really care at this point....I'm enjoying the heck out of this Apex XTX will be keeping it for awhile, no matter what yamaha comes out with.

Well put, same feelings. I think it is a combo of a few things when you compare the Nytro and the Viper. Ignition, gearbox,no rear exhaust and it could even possibly be the driveline such as how the suspension rolls. I mentioned this awhile back when the first demos were being tested. I drove several of the Vipers at Waldoch's demo rides in 2013 before these were on the market and one of them went really, really well. It sounded stronger in exhaust tone and pulled like a freight train...not like a turbo...(I have driven those too) but very throaty and strong like a well dialed Nytro. It did pop a little when you let off the flipper though like advanced timing. Made me wonder what was done to it and I was thinking at the time...."I'd could live with that"....

Kip will tell you (these were his words to me) that he can't give away 121" versions of any NEW sleds. In NEW sleds he inventories all long trackers. Think about where Pat's is located? There isn't a big demand for Apex long tracks up there like there is, say, in Ontario or Quebec. Pre-Viper Nytro's, Viper and Vector long tracks....yep. Pat's has such a great reputation that people line up for good used Yamaha 4s' when they get them in on trade.

The manufactures tend to be going away with 121's too. Apex and Vipers shortest version are 128-129" tracks. I know Kip said he can't seem to keep used 136 Attak/Apex models or the Apex XTX models, they go quickly. I bought my used Attak GT from him last year. I actually had them hold a low mile Apex GT for me last season before I got up there that he had listed on his website. I figured I would long track it in the future. I drove it when I got there, was all stock, darted and spun like crazy. Carbides were shot and had no spare belt. He wanted $5500 for it, I was torn. Here he had a super clean (I'm picky too) 07 Attak GT in red (wanted black...oh well) that had much more miles on it that was traded the day before I arrived and never listed. One drive and I knew this was my sled. It also had new Dually carbides and three belts, two windshields, a rear heat exchanger ,Yamaheaters, 2" bar riser, 2" foam added to seat by a Upholstery shop for $4000. I snapped it up and am super happy with it. Stuck a new Ripsaw II on it, clutched it,new bearings, new hyfax and had rear shock rebuilt this season. Nice machine for the money. By looking at it you would swear it has only a couple thousand miles, yet it has around 13,700 right now.
Just hoping they keep building more sleds in the future. Bad winters like this are not good for the sled biz.

I don't think we'll be seeing many 121's from any manufacturer soon. While I can't talk because I own a 144 in Minnesota, but buying a 128 or 129 and putting a deeper lug track on it will get you through just about anything, anywhere (besides in the mountains).
What really scares me is that Yamaha hasn't hinted anything yet this year, which leads me to believe we'll be seeing some more BNG for 2016 (possibly a Phazer motor in a Viper chassis if we're lucky).
Remember how much hype Yamaha was raising before they released the Viper? Nothing like that this year, but maybe they're keeping a surprise under lock and key because of the mixed reactions the Viper raised in the Yamaha community two years ago.

One thing that encourages me a little is that Arctic Cat does not typically sell the same sled for 5 years plus as Yamaha has done. Maybe we can at least hope for some updates to the Yamacat models other than BNG.
Chris Reid sounded kinda discouraged in his latest sledtalk post. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but whatever ... He's been a pin cushion for disappointed Yamaha die-hards for a long time, so you can hardly blame the guy for not wanting to over promise and under deliver.
If there's nothing exciting from the Blue camp this year, how many would be willing to jump ship? A lot of us are here because we want a reliable sled and let's face it ... new sleds are expensive. Few of us can afford to trade up every year for the latest and greatest, so we want something that will run well for long haul. It's at least part of the reason why I'm on a Yamaha 4T sled instead of one of the other brands.
That said, the other brands are making strides in the 4t dept. and I wouldn't hesitate to give serious consideration to another brand if they offered the right product. Doo is getting closer with ACE motors ... if they were to offer a 4T motor making 135-145hp in a 450-475 lbs chassis I might just lay my money down.
Only 3 more days til Doo's line up is revealed ... not holding my breath.

There's already been some info that the Doo 1200 will get a small bump in Hp....and a move to the XS chassis with Wireless throttle and new adjustable skis...hmmm. As for a sub 500 pound chassis...that's asking a bit much imo.
