Yeah they got the 80hp class, get something new that bridges the gap from 80 - 120+ on the Vector. There is a demographic there they are not selling to, like it or not. Yep, 15-20hp would be nice!

That's been asked of for years...but time and again, Yamaha comes up with nothing. Then, Skidoo comes out with the 900 ACE and it becomes a hot seller...pretty difficult to top it.

If history tells us anything, (EX: vector in old RX1 chassis) they drindle the old chassis' for a couple years after they convert and then drop them. This is where the comments of "they need t use up their extra parts/unsold units" comes in.

Just my take.......3 more weeks.

This makes sense. Brand new ground up model to replace the Apex, use up the leftover Apex chassis on the Vector for a couple more yrs. Remember when the RX1 was introduced, Yami likes to start from the top on down.

The cat 600 and 800 are damn good motors and are already in yamahas (joke of a ) new chassis development. I say buy cat, if thats what your looking for. If Yamaha ever decides to take the four banger and get within 15 - 20 lbs of a smoker to make the weight arguement moot, then yes they have accomplished something. There is already a sled on the market that suit almost everyones needs, its just a matter of finding it. It just might not be the brand you love is all. Instead of asking or spending years waiting and complaining...move on. A wait for tomorrow business model will not survive today as it may have years ago, times are changing and we can too.

lol, I'll change stickers for ya!!!! I love my Ape too, someday somebodys gonna get a barnfind cause the resale stinks and it worth more to me. The stable is expanding though, and she doesn't see much use. Doo Freeride 800 is too much fun. Apex=Powerpig! The Doo adds grace as well. Times when you grit your teeth hard on the Ape, it turns into enjoyment on the Doo. The New Poo Axys RMK is boasting 408lbs. That is now 200lbs less than the Viper MTX. Only trail riders don't care about weight, one category. Every other category from snowx, hillclimb, backcountry, drag raceing the list goes on and weight sure does make a difference. But like I said before, ride what makes you happy, don't put your hopes and dreams on anyone elses shoulders, and choose what right for you. Ride on!

Hey Scott I hear ya ... My favorite kind of riding is boondocking and I've been eyeing up the Freeride for a couple of years, but haven't pulled the trigger because I'm not sure about the longevity of the sled and I have a hard time spending the kind of money that these sleds cost when it might need replacing in two or three years. If money were no object though, I would run out and get a couple of Freerides (an extra one in case the first one went down) and just ride it hard and put it away wet. Man, that would be great ... but that's not the reality for me. So I keep looking to Yamaha to see if they'll bring something worthwhile to the table.

I have an 08 apex MTX and love boondocking and hill climbing and side hilling but after a day of riding I'm beat, and tired. I don't dear go into the trees and pick my way through she's just to heavy for it

maybe yamaha is helping out Cat with it's new "c-tec 800" and that's why they went one more year with Suzuki. Yamaha and cat both with 800 twins- one with yamaha clutches and one with cat clutching..... a guy can dream can't he?

Sadly If I recall there is very few vipers drag racing, hill climbing, and xc racing yet they have been on the box quite abit.

I was at Pat's in Greenland this past week and WOW was he selling sleds. He is in a total hotbed there. Some Japs from Yamaha were there and were having a meeting with the owner. I guess the Apex machine was discussed and he told them put the 200HP motor in it and it will sell like hot cakes.

IMHO, go with a naturally aspirated 185-200 HP motor and put in a better rear skid like an R-Motion, some premium front shocks and a few other ergo upgrades like taller seat foam and a slightly taller bar allowing quicker standing transitions with a medium ht, but decent looking windscreen and it would be a great seller.

I talked with a family.....die hard Yamaha folk.....from Chicago the first day in the Rosseau Bar. He was looking at our Apex sleds and drooling over my buddies SC'd Attak with the new sled wrap. He was saying that last year he came up and his high mile Attak (15,000 miles) had the studded Ripsaw come apart and did a bunch of cooler damage. His machine was going to be in the shop all week and he needed a machine so he traded for a 2014 Viper LTX. I asked how he liked it. He said it rode and handled decent but had been a total lemon, in the shop constantly, gearbox took a crap, bolts and other stuff coming loose on the machine, had starting problems, ignition was re-flashed several times but still has weird running quality gremlins. Bearings going out of it.......just a lot of NON Yamaha type issues. Not to mention how disappointed he has been in the power and speed.

Had another guy tell me Cat has a whole new chassis coming out next year. If true what does that mean for the Yamaha/Cat venture??

Agree not all that much to change on Apex XTX but rear skid is out dated & should not be too difficult to do the changes you suggest. Unfortunatley just never seems to happen new skid & shocks would sell well for Apex Lovers.

Yeah the sled your suggesting sounds awesome and would sell. Yamaha could make their own sled as good or better than anyone if they wanted. They have all the resources they need. Not that their sleds are bad by any means, I love my old Warrior. I just hate the idea that Yamaha may give up on sleds and just merge with Cat and not build their own anymore. I think that would be a shame. Especially knowing what Yamaha is capable of. Hopefully they will invest in making new sleds and we can start seeing more Yamaha blue on the trails !!
