I believe that Yamah has already given up makeing snowmobiles. Once the left over bits to make phazers, apexs, and nytros are done, thats it.
It will all be rebadges cats, and next year will have even more models common to each other.

I've heard the Yamaha is getting out of sleds for as long as I have ridden. I spring ordered an 06 Apex GT and loved it. I sunk it and got an 07 Attak GT. There are many models that have come and gone while the Delta Box sleds endure. There are foibles but generally they are pretty solid if a little too heavy.
I believe they could get away with building 100HP, 130HP and 160HP in the SRV chassis and I would be OK with that. But I think the DB chassis is going to be refined. Think of all the aftermarket ways to save weight. It's silly to think they can't glean some clues from under their own nose now and improve on the DB platform.
I think they should make the Apex a side dump exhaust - lighter.
Use CC race sled front end geometry with lightened parts similar to Nytro or Timbersled upgrade.
Use lighter A/C skids with better angle of approach
Lighter seat and battery in the rear like the SRV.
Give us 10 more horses.
Find another 10lbs in the tunnel, bulkheads, steering, headlight, and DB itself.
New plastics for a distinctive look.
There ya go.
2016 Apex Predator, 40-50lbs lighter and 10 more horses with the same reliability of the DB platform drivetrain. I'll buy one.

I can't see this ever happening as Yamaha offers a turbo option on the mountain Vipers...therefore a slightly less powerful engine doesn't make sense.

Keep the Apex!!! 10 years and still a great sled...nothing is perfect...so Yammy, figure out how to lay the engine down more in the center, to balance out the nose weight, add 10 + hp at least..and you will sell them all!!! I'm not swayed by the latest greatest...see the rush suspension outside the tunnel...first year.."awesome' now it stinks compared to ski doo rehashed sc10's and the twin spar..'awesome' now it stinks compared to the latest cat chassis..yet no one goes any faster on the trails and this years new sleds will suck next year when the latest greatest comes out..yet the apex's endure....

Yep Apex is not broken! How do you make perfection betteor. And to those who say it is a bigger motor then the 3 they are wrong it is smaller, smoother and has more hp. Win Win Win! If they ever dump the Apex they better have a trail sled to replace it otherwise they loose a lot of Apex riders.
Viper is not an Apex replacement its a Nytro replacement even if they stuff an Apex engine in it. It would just be another engine swap not a ground up build. I would be hard pressed to buy a Catamaha. After looking at a Viper it was easy to see that it is cobbled together and the motor was an after thought. Yamaha's are not perfect but adding Cats problems to a Yamaha badged sled just makes them even less so! IMHO!
By the way I think my XTX is the closest to a perfect sled Yami has built so far!

The more I ride my Apex, the more I realize what a great sled it is. It needs to go on a diet though...then it could be a perfect sled.

whether anyone believes me or not? there is a redesigned apex or they may call it the srx coming out for 2016. i've tt the some of the guys who have test ridden them. i can't give you any details about them but if you were going to buy a viper wait, you won't be disappointed. all i can say is vipers aren't fast. the new apex is and is going to be "king of the trail, lake and mountain" .

Well we can only hope...
Yamaha has always saved the SRX badging for a sled that lives up to the reputation[except the SRX mini...What was with that!!!]
I also believe we will one day see a NEW SRX, Yamaha has to know the impact on the market an all new SRX would have. The 4 cylinder currently being used in the R1 would be very nice...180hp NA!
They would not be able to supply enough sleds for the market demand.
Most of we die hard SRX riders are running out of mods to do to our 13 - 17 year old sleds!
I just hope Arctic Cat doesn't get the Apex 4 cylinder engine.

Sounds too good to be true, but it would be a show stopper if they put it all together...

The hack job that is the 'Yamaha' Viper is a harbinger, in addition to being the industry's worst sled currently on the market. And this year brings only BNG. It could it not be more obvious Yamaha is exiting the sled manufacturing biz.

The dealer I was just at said their rep told them that Yamaha is working on a new 4 cylinder sled engine but they were not given any release date. Hopefully it's true and it comes out next year. Not sure I believe it but it would be great.

please believe me when i say i'm not trying to give anyone false hope. i was going to spring order a new viper and install a mpi on it as well. i know the cat's aren't fast unless you spend big money and they still won't beat my apex with the mpi.
this has been a stellar yr for snow and cold weather around here. it's got everyone fired up about sleddin', but the last 4 yrs have sucked eggs. next yr maybe a bomb as well and i'd be pissed to learn i ordered a new viper and then the following yr they came out with a new apex(yamaha chasis and engine). how much would you get on trade, $7500 if you were lucky? reminds me of the old days of owning a 2002 skidoo and losing $6k because they came out with the rev the next yr. that's why i bought yamaha to retain it's value.
brp holds over 54% of the sled sales in north america, yamaha is last(behind cat and polaris). why? because brp are light, comfortable, good on gas and cheap to buy(you can buy a 600 etec for under12k Canadian). if you don't think yamaha wanted to sell more sleds they wouldn't have went into partnerships with arctic cat for the viper. they're going to throw the "hail mary" with the new apex wait and see. who likes getting beat by poo poo?
my last words about the sled; it'd better be under 500lbs, it'd better be fast(like 120mph real world fast, not dream meter), it'd better be under 14k, it'd better get 20mpg. if yamaha could do this little list they'd sell a $hit load of sleds and take back the market.
