Hello,
Just bough a new OEM battery for my 2018 MTX Sidewinder. The new battery is already dead 3 weeks later ! Did testing to see if there is a parasitic draw on my snowmobile. When key OFF and snowmobile not running, I have 30mA draw with the multimeter plugged in series on the negative side of the battery and negative lead.
I have NO flasher plugged on the snowmobile. I want to know, how much mA should I be reading on my multimeter when the snowmobile is OFF. 0mA ?
Do you have any ideas what should I check ? I've read people have bad fuse or relay, wire grounding on the frame, bad rectifier/voltage regulator and so on...
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks

On cars and trucks now a days they say less than 50mA after all modules have timed out and are sleeping. If you want to find the draw pull fuses and watch for your meter to drop. Then see what is all powered by that fuse.

So 30mA is too much ? Should It be 0mA normally ?

Hello, here an update :
Removed all fuses and relay once by once. The only one that make it goes to 0mA is when i’ve removed the green 30A fuse for the battery circuit. What does it mean ?

The battery fuse only connects the positive terminal to the rest of the system. Pulling the fuse is just cutting power to everything on the sled. Have you added anything to the sled?

Look for a wire rub under fuse box in nose of sled.

I will go measure my sled. My sled measures .14ma - ground to battery. (2021 SRX)
30ma will drain your battery in 600 hours or just over 3 weeks with the stock battery.
You likely have a poorly conducting short or some corrosion somewhere.

Not sure if you found your draw yet. But on a Viper, if you leave the key on and shut the sled off with the handle bar kill switch (like you would on a 2 stroke) there is a power relay that can stay energized. Normally it will draw about 20 to 25 milli-amps and the dash will not be illuminated indicating that there is anything is on.
If you turn the key off, the relay is no longer energized regardless of the position of the handle bar kill switch.

Hello, it’s a good point but the draw is still present while there is no key and the killswitch at off. Still trying to find it out !

And there is no flasher? Not by the gauge or by the left foot ? But it’s been flashed? ECU or Gauge ?

Hi, the ECU as been flashed with Turbo Dynamics tune at the dealer when I bought the sled new in 2018. Never had an issue with that. This mysterious draw started this year.
Today I’ve disconnected almost every sensors/connectors to see if they were faulty, still not found my 30mA draw.
Also looked at the wires under the fuse box, everything look fine.
I will check again tomorrow !
Thanks everyone !

This is just what I’ve been told by my dealer. The parasitic draw is a normal PIA thing to deal with. Both our 20 and 22 will draw battery dead if I don’t keep a trickle charger on them. Other thing to do per dealer is disconnect the main guage harness on clutch side as u would when removing hood. This also stops draw. Per experience it does stop draw but then I have to reset my clock. So charger it is.

Strange. I have a 2017 and 2020 and after the summer they are low but not dead. Always full charge them for the season and that’s about all I do.
