2018

They have done it before. One guy I know is friends with one the test rider/developers. They are fairly tight lipped but few years back he told him to do the dealer unveiling it would be amazing. And nothing new was released. He called him up and was told dude I rode the thing last week and it was this years sled. So for whatever reason they scrapped it last minute. It happens and here we are
Not sure I follow your response .
Your scenario is that they scrapped the release of the same old same old , with no new additions .
That's understandable .
Is that what you are saying ?

Possiable. It was for 2012 model year. Assuming it's dead project at this point lol

If it was for 2012, I would think it was a revised FXNytro with new front-end, relocated steering post and some more up-dates...
Instead, in some last minute decision, they got this idea that they could use ACs Procross chassi and stamp in the Nytro-engine there instead.
All because AC needed new 4s engines (with Suzuki stopping), and Yama saw a chance of getting their hands on a new platform without putting to much dough into that.
And so we got the Viper.
I for one, had really liked to see an up-dated Nytro. I still can drool over the Nytro XC-machines, and dream of what could have been!

With that said, in Yamahas position that time, with strong Yen, effects of tsunami and shrinking global market, it was probably correct what they did.
I say this from a stricktly business stand-point, because it looks like the Viper have sold well and kept Yamaha in business...made in Japan or not.

The Nytro with the RACE front suspension was too tempting for me to pass up.

Congratulations!!
Is this the same one that has been for sale right now?
Number 104 maybe? (don´t remember where I saw it)
Does it have the relocated 128" track also?

A great piece of Yamaha-history to take care of...and for others to envy, me included;-)

It's the Hillclimb Racer. The cross country racer had the reverse removed. I need reverse so I got the one with reverse instead.

The nose (plastics) on the Nytro is one of the best looking sleds ever made. If Yamaha does decide to build another chassis, I hope they keep some of its looks ... but in a narrower package. I've always wondered why no manufacturer has ever tried to move the clutches out in front of the motor in an effort to make the sled thinner. Wouldn't it be possible to run a short chain case off the PTO, and connect it to another short shaft holding the primary out in front of the motor? If so, the secondary could be positioned on a jackshaft just above the primary, with the actual drive gears/chain case on the opposite end of the jackshaft. I would think there would still be room to run the steering post and snake the exhaust in front of the motor. You would add some weight with the extra components, etc., but the sled would be really skinny.

are you referring to a fair number of years ago ?
I was hearing the same thing ~2012, a dealer told me that I would love what was coming out about a week before the release that year, then nothing but BNG! The Viper dropped the following year so I'm not sure if that's what it was and got held back a year as most dealers had TONS of 11's and 12's sitting in crates that March.

I seem to recall a story back in the days of the , I believe , SRX in the 80's twin cylinder version , that ate belts and drank oil , and they couldn't get it right one year , so they pulled them before intro , and had them all destroyed .
Any body hear something to that effect .

They did release the old srx, they were at dealers and demanded they get returned an crushed. My father knew a guy who had already taken delivery. He told him to keep it but he didn't :/
