2019 release

Keep hearing thundercat is lowered. But it’s Same travel as the rest and not mentioned anyplace on cats website.

From Maxsled. Com:

"The Thundercat returns to its heritage

The 2019 Thundercat is going back to its roots as a full-on lake runner. Cat dropped its ride height to improve the 200+ horsepower muscle sled better aerodynamics at speed. The T-Cat also gets a low-profile 1.0-inch Rip Saw track. Lake runners stud the bejeezus out of the track so the 1.25 track is just extra weight and extra fan blade that slows everything down. By the same token, it also gets a single carbide on the skis.

The rear suspension sports a new torsion spring with less initial preload to help the Thundercat squat menacingly without giving up bottoming control."

Insurance company’s are really not liking the 4dig displacements hence the 998. So I feel they will be avoiding them.

I’ve seen it in editorial form but not mentioned at the release, or on website and we all know that it would take more than shorter shocks to get geometry right. And to be same travel would require new bulkhead or sprinkle and tunnel mounting locations at the least. It would require some written confirmation and bragging from the oem in my opinion.

You could get the same travel and still have it sit lower. It sounds like they have just used weaker springs thus increasing the sag without and probably with rider. But the overall travel from full extension to full compression would be the same. Its just now when sitting it is half way through that travel.

A lowered sidewinder and call it an SRX would be a big let down.

Not for the SRX cult following/faithful. But that said, to me (a lover of the SRX) it's more of a marketing ploy. Nothing cutting edge. Just refinement. Seems to they're just going after the "top dog" market/class all over again (which is what they did in '17 with the original Sidewinder. Makes no sense to me , as Yamaha historically focuses on a different class each year.

Ya I was hoping for maybe an Apex motor stuffed in there. Love the srx back in the day. Rode one up until this year when I sold it for a 02 viper.

The allure of 130mph lake rockets
Sounds cool and all. Will sell units initially with all hype but for the masses it’s a a huge let down.
Snowmobiling is not who goes across the lake the fastest.
If they won’t to survive, they need focus on the masses not on particular small aspect of snowmobile usage.

Let's hope Yamaha comes out with a Phazer replacement...long overdue. Better yet if it's a new chassis.

Your right - a cult following at best. The big Y certainly needs a lot more in order to gain market share.

And yet 99% of people will never take their SUV or trucks off road, big bikes sell well, and even small cars in NA are overpowered by world standards. People love to project the capacity even when lacking personal ability. Price notwithstanding, the positioning is *okay* for a broad audience but there is no doubt that there is a need for a lower capability product.
