I simply don't understand what a new SRX brings to the lineup. They already have the winder which is capable of much more than is given in stock form. What will this SRX bring to the table that isn't already there? Maybe it just stroking Cats heritage of always having the biggest dog in the lake race game, the same strategy that took them from top of sales to a solid 3rd place barely ahead of Yamaha. Why not give us two good all purpose sleds, a 100 HP class all around trail sled and a 160 HP class corner to corner sled that we don't have to drop another 3 to 5 grand into in order to tap the potential the power plant has?
The ol 700 SRX was low sleek and fast with its low profile track and low suspension profile. Why not build from that heritage and take a tall sitting sidewinder and have it defaulted for speed for those that want that? I'm sure the taller Sidewinders will still be available for those that want more suspension and track for default. Its all about choice and I'll never knock any OEM for offering choice even if its not my flavour.
Just came back from a major Radar event and top speed sidewinders had shaved down 1" tracks. I can see where a lowered SRX will fit in as a stock, ready to tune, turn key lake racer.

The original Srx is a icon... With the best of Japan... To hold to it's heritage.. And respect it's name.... It should have been reserved for a Japan but sled.... Also... They should release their 850 di motor

I don't think Yamaha needs to release anything new. What they need to do is refine some of the crap that comes on this Cat built sled. Fix the roll over valve, relays, clutching, ski's, china made bearings exposed hose under tunnel, oil tank seal and I could mention more. That's what Doo has done over the years. Just refine stuff so we don't have to fix all the flaws here on TY!!
The Winder is an awesome sled. It may be a heavy pig but it rides and handles as good or better than anything else out there. They just need to address some of these little issues that drive us all crazy.

Yes they do use there own clutching. It may not be a “cat” part but they do some refining.Clutching? Yamaha uses their own clutches on theses sleds.

Very true and it needs to be addressed. All the flaws on the Winder are not Cat related but many are.Clutching? Yamaha uses their own clutches on theses sleds.

Agree with you bud, we saw every fast winder/cat turbo run with shaved track or hacksaw....Now a guy can buy a tcat/srx with fully clipped 1" rip2. Hopefully it wont have the silent bumps on it(likely will tho) and a lowered/newly calibrated torsion on a 137 that did not transfer....hopefully they got the new elec susp and transfer working, which I believe is what their teaser video is showing....the SRX beating a reg turbo down a track. We will see i guess.
Also, for those thinking 137s are faster....Maybe Nick will chime in today. I think he will or did win the spec 2 class. I believe he went over 139 in 1320ft yesterday if I have it right, That is sick Nick!

Joe...YAM is no longer YAM. IMO they will never fix anything, as they dont exist in sledding capacity anymore. I think it all will be done at cat only. Which leaves things like clutching off table for us to fix ourselves.I don't think Yamaha needs to release anything new. If I did it all again, id buy a cat period. At least cat works on things and fixes....But I dont see YAM doing one thing, except releasing same exact things that cat does with their own name on it.(IE:SRX is just tcat, zero input from YAM except name and color)
I would LOVE to hear YAM is gonna address belt blowers, and the other items that plague us....I just dont see it happening. Sad cause this sled is so darn close to perfect, but just needs a few things fixed to make it perfect. Hope im wrong!

I will say Yamaha takes care of its customers thru warranty and Cat is tougher that way. I have a dealer friend that sells both. Yamaha dosen't bat an eye and many times Cat will not even cover items.
There's no way I'd buy a Cat over the Yamaha just for that reason alone.
What do they need to fix? Lots of these issues are self inflicted from tunes, poor clutching and such. Only thing I see wrong is the ROV blowby system could be like Doo's, that means just copy their system.
They fixed the flat spotting driven rollers right away. Whats the other issues?

Agree about warranty...Cat left me out to dry many times, and My dealer tells me Yam will and does cover alot, and even more once onto the YES plan for yrs 2 thru 5.I will say Yamaha takes care of its customers thru warranty and Cat is tougher that way. What Im talking about is updates and/or fixes to known issue....YAM is not in this business anymore. Where as CAT saw a clutch issue, and gave out new clutches, CAT is trying to better issues as they are in the snowmo biz, YAM is not from what I see. I would love to be wrong and hear about updates or fixes from YAM, but I dont see it.

Wat a minute Dan. I don't see any issues that are not self inflicted problems on the Winder. Rollers are breaking bushings because were breaking belts from turning them up so high, PTO shaft gets pushed over from blowing belts. People are also running crazy clutching in them and messing them up, overheating belts and then exploding belts. You can't blame Yamaha on that. Like I said, the stuff you're talking about is self inflicted, lets be honest.
There getting tuned up, geared up, clutched up, wrong offset is being thrown out there. They blow belts because of self inflicted issues. Wanna play, ya gotta pay. It's happening with Cat too, no different.
Want reliable, then leave them stock, but don't blame Yamaha for cripes sake and not taking care of issues. The only issue I know of stock is flat spotting driven rollers and they jumped on that and fixed them right away last season. ROV, yes that could use a fix, but that's on Cat I think and IMO an easy DIY fix if your worried about it. Relays, is that Cat or Yam?
Too many people blow this stuff out of proportion and want to blame Yamaha because of their self inflicted problems. Yamaha sent out a great machine stock, want reliable, then leave it BONE stock, want issues, then start messing with it, its the chance you take.

I do think though, there are plenty of STOCK winders out there that dont have great belt life, and some guys cant keep a belt on them at all....even stock. I know internet hype can make it look worse too, but it is happening. These aint no APEX belt life sleds you gotta admit.
Why not make a turbo belt? That seems like a no brainer...
You can go on HCS and barely find any posts much less threads, about blowing belts on 998s.....but here on TY, the entire forum can have a dozen threads all going at once on page one about belts/alignment, ect. That is never a good sign.
No doubt adding massive HP is asking for belt life to be reduced, and I get it. Maybe im asking for too much being a trail guy wanting the big power too.

The guys on HCS are used to the old belt blowing 1100's and used to belts blowing, the guys here are used to the Apex and never blowing a belt. The Apex has a rubber damped geared down output shaft taking vibes out. The twin and triple four-strokes have horrible harmonics and vibes transmitting all that directly to the clutches and belts. Not just Yamaha but Doo also.
The problem here is one guy says the offset should be at 61mm. So everyone set them at 61mm. Monkey see, monkey doo. One guys says oh, you gotta try this clutching, bang, monkey see, monkey doo. That clutch setup blowing lots o-belts and running super hot! One guy says, OMG, this spring is coil binding in the driven, you gotta buy this spring, bang, everyone goes out and buys that heavy spring. See how one guy that doesn't really know, but thinks he knows and others so too can really mess up a dang good machine?
If you have a stock winder you can get by with offset that is not perfect, it's making less power. The powerhouse tunes need alignment to be spot on and perfect. I finally pulled my clutch guard to have a look and could see for myself that 60mm on my sled was not in far enough at 1:1 shift. So I moved mine in after blowing a couple of belts. It takes a while to evolve these things at the high power levels, especially when the winters are so dang poor anymore.
