Well I will have to agree to disagree. It has been dropped from almost all of Yamaha's product line, and not just because of slight cost difference. Only a matter of years and it will only be seen in history books.Well I call Bullhooy! A race bike is not a streetbike or snowmobile engine and that article is opinion. Yes I think Rossi was one of the greatest but all racers have personal preferences does not make the 4 valve superior except for him. All I know is having been in both types of motors the 5 valve has way less valvetrain losses. Higher rpm potential because of the much lighter valves and all my 5 valve motors I have owned never had valves go tight unlike these motors. They were like Jewelry. How can anyone see a 5 valve motors components and just not be amazed? Especially the bikes and quads with Titanium valves. You can push the valve in with one finger! Cam profile is way less aggressive also. Lot of 100000mi R1's around and look at the Apex motors.Whatever. Maybe I am old school. Those motors just amazed me. These 4 valves work and make power with a cheating Turbo on them but they will never be as special to me as the 5 valvers.
It may be pretty to look at a 5'valve layout, but pretty in this case isn't producing power.

Ski Doo has their 2021 release up. Nothing special and the DooTalk folks are whining. Doesn't look like there is a new Mach Z to compete with the Winder either.

I didn’t expect a MZ that market has traditionally been small for doo and they don’t want a 4s to complete with their flagship 8502s. Whoever ...can whine but how many buy? Not many and especially if not offered. Lol. Imo doo might come at the go fast crew with a sea level 850 turbo nice profitability with mountain turbo. Business wise seems logical maybe next year. The 900t stays niched right where it is and the aftermarket sells a ton of tunes for those that must have more from a 4s.Ski Doo has their 2021 release up. I noticed someone took the discussion thread about the possible Mach Z down, not sure why? I have been snooping on DooTalk for a couple weeks now and there really did not seem to be much discussion about a new lake machine.

I just breeze thru dootalk not much new to discuss over there imo. I’m happy with my 900t Enduro asked all my questions last year. Buddy suppose to buy an Doo 850 Spring deal selling Viper and also selling Venture and buying doo900t GT. We will see the Viper has been problematic but the Venture has been a solid sled. Said he was tired of waiting for Yamaha to come out with new Japanese sled doesn’t like Cat at all. To each his own Yamacats are fine with me just too old in the tooth need to move on from procross imo.

Man in all my years of riding I've never even thought twice about a doo.
Weird seeing the obsession on a Yamaha board....

I am not obsessed with any of them, just like to see what's going on in the industry.
Not that shootouts mean much to me but I found it kind of funny there were a few reports including the shootout that the 900T was beating the 850 ETec stock for stock but talking to some actual owners it's not working out that way. It would not have surprised me if Doo did come out with a lake machine being market share seems to be their thing these days. Apparently they must not have thought they needed one or maybe they tried with their 900T and it did not meet their wishes.......who knows?
I also find it strange they show the 1200 as a motor on their site but you cannot get it in any chassis unless I missed something...?

This is Totally Yamaha, and it is a great site when you have a problem or want to talk about Yamaha's if you want to know if the 850 is faster than the 900T go to Doo talk and ask your questions over there. If you want a Ski Doo go buy one, don't come on this site and try to justify it. I do know one thing for sure tho that 850 and 900 T(what ever one you decide is faster) has absolutely nothing for the Winder/T Cat.

Wait a minute! I have been a paying member for as long as this site has existed on the old format! I don’t remember anyone telling me or anyone else they cannot mention brand X if it’s general conversation. I am not bragging anything up. This is a 2021 speculation thread.
Show me where I was trying to justify buying a Ski Doo? I have owned Yamaha’s my whole
Life.
I see no VIP status so you sir are not a paying member!!!!

I agree with you, there is nothing wrong about talking about brand x, that is how we determine what works the best and learn what the new trend in the snowmobile industry is, a little competition is healthy in this industry that is very competitive, I enjoy listening to riders that have spent their hard earned dollars on new tech that works even if it is brand x, in this sport you have to keep a open mind, by the way Vipers and Winders are pretty much brand x too.Wait a minute!
