What’s really crazy is I had a 15 Cat 7000 and it was perfect starting and idling. That was a great running motor actually!!! I liked it. Now the 17 viper not do much. WTF happens. They went backwards. That’s the stupid Chinese Cat Ecu in Viper making it start and idle like a Methanol Drag car! You saw how mine started. One try. Was impressed myself

I don’t know about anyone else, but after 2 winders at the end of this season I found myself kind of bored. Not with the power at all but with the sled. I hope for something better than power steering for an srx. I had a 1200 Doo for my wife a couple years ago and liked it. Always said if they bumped up their 900 turbo and fixed the throttle I’d go back. Now it seems they have done both. I want to stay but I need to see something to keep my attention. I guess I’m never happy.

Well a lot of parts in motor changed for late 16 and 17 and 5 different flashes. So who knows. Mine is tuned right. What’s really crazy is I had a 15 Cat 7000 and it was perfect starting and idling. There are actually three kinds of people. I honestly thought turbos were unnecessarily complicated, unreliable, and after all, who needs all that speed? Then I bought a used 2017 SW that had 10K miles on it for my son, and after one ride, I was hooked. Even with 10K, the engine was flawless. So, there are three categories: Those with a turbo; those who want one; and those who want one but just don't realize it yet because they haven't ridden one! There’s 2kinds of people, those with a turbo, and those that wish they had one

I think many including myself opt for the sidewinder since it runs so much smoother than the viper. Rode my father in laws 11 vector this weekend and it is silky smooth like a sidewinder compared to the viper. Viper just never had that precision smoothness like every other yamaha 4 stroke sled. Initially I thought it was the driveline/chassis, but when sidewinder came out it quickly eliminated that theory because it ran so smooth just like the apex, vector, nytro models. This year we ran a sidewinder muffler on a viper and it helped smooth and quiet the sled down some more, but still not on level of sidewinder. Only thing left really is the ECU and electronic package, so really hoping if the Viper gets power steering it gets new electronics.

Its crazy to think Yamaha cant make the Viper run quality better.. I understand the thinking that some don't need or want a turbo. But its just a no brainer to me.. Not sure why anyone would buy a Viper unless its strictly money as the price difference is a deal breaker..

Why? Because Yamaha is perfectly capable of producing 180hp without a Turbo and all the related parts and weight associated with it. Viper also has a radiator and fan. Comes in real handy this time of year. Sum it up. Less worries. Its crazy to think Yamaha cant make the Viper run quality better.. I understand the thinking that some don't need or want a turbo.
