Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the 4th wheel kits.
I think they provide better traction and handle better through the corners.
But i have noticed its a bit harder to side hill. The track is defiantly easier to adjust and center in skid.

Yes. If for nothing else, it keeps snow and water from hitting you in the back!!!!!
I had to cross a large shallow water hole once and the water caught the edge of the track where there was no wheel and covered my back with water!!

If your studed, especially on the outside then. 4th wheel is almost a must, if not then throw in a jt 2 whell trihub replacement, easy to carve, sidehill and just plain looks cool with no wheels on outside

I just picked up the J@T Tri hub replacement. Looks like a nice upgrade, good quality parts. I am going to try 2 wheels for a bit, planning on studding then I will put 4 wheels..

Really only need the 4 for studding if you do the outside of track. If just middle like I do outside wheels would not be needed other than for longevity and backup if one of inners fails.

No studs and changed bearings each begainning of winter, no issue for me with the trihub since 3 years

I bought the 4th wheel kit and have a hard time getting the track alignment right with it. I've thought about making up an axle to use the new wheels instead if the the tri-hub. I have to admit that I like the look of no outer wheels and I don't trust the bearings in the tri-hub.

No one talks much about other options, but there is also the Big Nutz axle and three wheels inside the rails for those that want more than just two wheels in the center for peace of mind without having to add outside the rails.

I like how you removed the black stop blocks, you ride like this in stock configuration
Or did you have to in order, for the larger trihub to fit.

You can also carefully remove dust/water seals on those new bearings and pack em full of a good synthetic grease. Not much in there. Your bearings will last twice as long. Just be very careful removing the dust/water seals.

Those who have questions about moving away from the tri-hub take a look at this thread... EPIC failures on stock Tri-Hub.

Once it goes, you are stranded and it doesn't tow very well as the track tension becomes very lose. I was lucky and pretty close to a parking lot. Regardless if you like 4 wheels or 2 wheels JT and others have solutions that provide isolation with each wheel instead of of tri-hub that fails if one bearing fails.

Plenty of pics!!

If you don't have oversized wheels, you can completely remove the block's and shaft for even more transfer.

On the transfer blocks, entire rod is now removed as I ride more off-trail than on.

On the Tri-hub replacement, I ordered the axle from OFT and the wheels separately. They are stock size so I can run without the rear cross rod in the skid.
