Well I just put on my 5th belt last night, have 4700 miles on my 09 XTX, sled has Ulmers clutching in it and has been alighned and shimed but still gets only about 1000 miles to a belt. They allways de-laminate, from heat I'm sure. I was woundering how many belts some of the higher milage guys have gone threw and if you have a vent kit installed or not. I really don't care that I have to throw a belt at this thing every 1000 miles but it would be nice to get 1500-2000 out of them. Belts are fairly cheap for Yami's but it sure makes the cost of ownership more then I thought it would be with a 4stroker.

I have 1400 miles & my original belt is still in spec & never been shimmed. I ran 150 miles in waist deep powder but pre-clutched for it. I kinda set up my clutching before every ride so I am usually allways in the sweet spot. For real deep powder I had to be at 9300 rpm on hardpack to hit 8600 in waist deep snow. I get kinda anal on clutching but I have not blown a belt in 3 years. I have a stack of 15 used ones tho that are pretty skinny.

you running a yamaha brand belt? Between three of us who have tried running other brand belts the yamaha belts last the longest. I only got 700 miles on a Gates kevlar belt, but got over 1000 on yamaha belts.
Belt life
I have been surprised how long the Yammi belt lasts compared to others. The original belt I switched out at 3200 miles for piece of mind, second belt completely disintagrated after 3500 miles, and have 2500 on the third belt. All 3 of them are the 8DN Yammi belt. 99% of my riding is on trail, but at a pretty good clip. Trails around here are wide and very fast which does generate a fair amount of heat build up.
I never have worried about heat build up enough to justify a vent kit. I think part of the "good luck" I am having is this: Wash belt when it is new with hot water and Simple Green (removes mold release compound) clean clutch sheaves, "break in" each new belt for 20 miles or so, and maintain proper clutch alignment and deflection.
Were do you get one of those "belt changing technician" that is in your avatar? Maybe that is why you are on your 5th belt........hmmmm...

It's my routine to install a new belt at the start of each season. With over 6400-miles on my Nytro I'm now on my third belt. On the last ride of last season the belt delaminated with 2000+ miles on it. My spare was the belt used for the previous season. I've had pretty good luck with the stock Yamaha belts. However, I did notice a little belt stink after some off-trail runs in deep snow last weekend, so the current belt probably won't go too much farther.

Had great luck with my first belt. got around 5500 on it. I swapped it out at prob around 4 or 4500 just because but when i did that the next belt which was yammi delaminated after a hundred or so. Went back to original and put another 1k or 1500 on it. Got pretty thin so put new belt on beginining of this year with a clutch kit. Ran fine for about 1k or 1500 and then delaminated and then blew. I have no idea why. my clutches are pretty worn on the face of them so i think that has something to do with it. If keep the sled another year im going to have to get 2 new clutches...

Well I have to admit I cant seem to stay off the flipper long enuf to break in a belt properly so its all on me. Just wish they would last a little longer. I had 4500 miles on my F7 belt driving the same way I do with the Nytro.

break in yes..
and good clutch grab/no slip....
I think the drag n flys and the 2 speeds excell in this area...never blown a belt...take a mic to them and they wear down as a wearable should...have a dozen backups...

Engine rpm?
Deep snow running? Possibly need lower gearing if you are running alot of deep snow with the 1.75" track you have.

I added a small washer to the tip to get the RPM down, now its at 9-9100 on long pulls so a little more wieght is needed. I have one tooth lower gear. I run a mix of drift-deep snow and hard pack trail.

I been blowing belts also. And its ALWAYS when machine is real hot from WOT runs or fast and heavy ditch pounding. Stock clutching and gears. Gonna try to vent that side. I've raced the SRX for 10 years and the ONLY time it eats belts is when it gets hot.
1200 miles and belt # 4 and yup i broke them in 3 oem and now the xs 805 i have on is also showing cords checked alignment and is right on with the specs in my manual but today i ordered the clutch allignment bar just to be sure mostly deep powder riding and i have a 1 5/8 track everything else is stock
