How would one know if you need new balljoints?? And have they been improved for 2009

Just jack up your machine on the front to take the weight off the skis and grab the ski in front and behind the spindle and attempt to move the ski up and down; if the ball joints are bad you can see quite obvious movement in the lower ball joint. It is difficult to tell otherwise because when the weight is on the frontend everything seems tight, even the bushings. I discovered this problem by chance when installing new skis on my VL - the balljoints for the VL are the same part # as the Nytro.
Was told the new ones are upgrades?? One way to find out is to go on a parts listing site and check the numbers between the '08 and '09.

The ball joints were updated during the late 08 season or the summer, can't remember which it was. The new balljoint has three 'dimples' around the bottom of the outer race.

Bushings are wearable items. When they are worn out again, buy Ulmers oilite bushing kit and forget about them.

The exhaust is kind of an ongoing issue but they recently released stainless pipes for the Apex and would be surprised if they don't do the same with the Nytro's at some point.

So the Ulmer bushings are so good that they can be installed and the problems are over?

Stock bushings=plastic
Ulmer bushings=oilite. In other words, oil impregnated bronze

You decide.
