I was wondering if anyone has added extra idlers to their MTX's for low snow conditions, and if so did it help with hyfax wear? I've been thinking about adding 3 larger side Doo wheels per rail to my new sleds when they arrive, as I have to ride roads and hard pack to get from area to area. I'd like to not have to cut the lugs down, but also dont want to replace the hyfax every other ride. Also do the anti-stab wheels help with wear on the very fronts of the hyfax.

Thanks,

Joe

Hyfax's

I did not add any wheels. I've changed them all for Kimpex wheels.
Yamaha's wheels are 5" diameter. The ones i've put on are 5.375".
So that gives me a bit more than 1/8" higher to the rails. I've had made some bushings to put inside the 2 front inner wheels because the bearing in it wasn't the same as the original one. I rode the first year with stock wheels... Had to change hyfax's like 3-4 times during winter. And this winter, with these wheels, put on a set of new hyfaxe's at the beggining of the season and they are still on. I've made more groomed trail this winter than the first year. Very satisfied of that:-) :-o

one word, hyperfax.

approx 1200 miles this winter, no noticeable wear. no skid wheels except the upper and rear (two wheel kit) idlers.

i do use scratchers as well.

the wife is on her third set of hyfax riding the same conditions and mileage, with the same sled. i finally bit the bullet on hers and bought another set of hyperfax and installed them tonight.

i aint goin through multiple hyfax changes in a year again. ski

I added Yamaha's marginal snow wheel kit and noticed a huge improvement, well worth it.

where did you add the marginal snow wheel kit? At the front of the skid where the wear is more pronounced? Ahead of the forward set of wheels

Did you just bolt the kimpex wheels on the skid in the same holes as the origional. With my sled laying on the cement in the garage I can spin the wheels....they're not on the track at all. My slides are worn a lot right around there and perfect otherwise. The bigger wheels should help with this. :4STroke:

Bigger wheels

Yes, external wheels(4) they fit right on. They won't be exactly at the same place as the stock one's because of the bearing thickness. Bearings in Kimpex wheels are a bit larger than the stock ones, approx. 1/16", but fits well. That's why they doesn't fit right on for the two in the middle of the rails, the ones at the front where rails begin to curve up. I took the same wheels as the external ones but had to make a bushing to put inside these 2 wheels and change the bearings in these. And now, sled is on hard surface and not able to turn these wheels. They now sits well on the track.
I did that at the beggining of the season, don't remember wheels # and bearings #. But let me know if you need them, i'll find them out;) :rocks:
Sorry for my english writting, french Canadian!!!!!

mount the wheel kit as far up to the front of the rails as possible, just before the rails start to tip.
