Just talked to my buddy that has them and had problems with them on his Vector. He said he lost the whole thing (no loc-tite) where as you only lost the wheel, so as mentioned, the clip came off somehow, or the wheel took such a hit it blasted it off the bearing? He has his on the outside also. Bad luck? I'd try again. He likes his.
If you can picture a rock on your floor in that picture you posted, seems pretty vulnerable, i'd think i'd rather have them on the inside? Just a thought. Like i said, my buds are on the outside too.

Just talked to my friend again, and he says he takes his off and re-packs with grease, and re-loc tites them at least twice during the season.
They are quite easy to do and get at.

i understand these wheels are not the best. i will be stoppong by my dealer today and asking if the will replace it some get me one for a lot cheeper, i have a good report with them. 3 rides in is a tad bit early to be loosing the wheel right off the bearing. i could ubderstand if it was the bolt, that would be my fault.
i will be moving them to in inside like cannondale said.
i havent hit anything that i could remember but i am sure it is possible. however nothig is bent or scrached.
thanks guys.

I have two sets on mine and did about 1000Km last season, no problems at all. I repacked the bearings with grease and they were in pretty good shape. I made sure I used red Loctite on the bolts. I am thinking of moving one of them inboard and the mid-rear set since my sled looks like a tank with all those wheels.
I can understand why the longevity of these things is brought into question given their size, they must spin like crazy at speed. We all know about small trailer tires destroying bearings real quick so imagine these tiny things.

when i explained what happend my dealer gave me a new wheel and bearing for free and said the clip must have not been put in right.
i dident think this was a normal thing to have happen.

Except for the two sets of low snow wheels, the number of wheels is the same. Just the mid-rear ones I put on the outside instead of in. I do have to say that I haven't had any slide wear since.

good deal yamahas. nice to hear a your dealer helped you out.
my dad has some on his vector. had them on the outside last year & lost a wheel.
i put them on the inside for him this year & no problems so far. granted they are in the mid-backpart section.
on my phazer i have 2 sets up front. had both on the outside last year & seen very little wear.
now i have 1 set on the inside & still 1 outside & no wear.

If i move the wheels to the inside, and if they fall off again should i be worried about the wheel getting lodged in there somewhere and breaking something?

How do you go about repacking the grease in these wheels?

i'd move them in.
you'll hear if it breaks off & gets stuck in there. had a rear heat exchanger protector "come loose" after some good mogels on my vmax. got wedged between track & tunnel.
packing, not sure. haven't done mine yet. 1500+ miles. i'll check them end of this season though.

Carefully pop the black seal out with a scribe or a pic, then clean, and/or grease. It's not science, just glob some grease in there, press the seal back in, clean off the excess, press back into the wheel, and put your snap ring back in and make sure it expands in the ring groove so it doesn't fall off again.yamahas said:How do you go about repacking the grease in these wheels?
There probably isn't much in them from the factory.

By the way, my press is a couple of small cut offs from 2x4s, an old 1-1/8" socket, and a hammer! Captain Cave Man! I've done literally hundreds like that over the years. Once you do a few and see what a bad one looks like and it still actually works, you'll know you can't screw up! Just get some grease in them.
