I'm sure there must be a type of spanner wrench for adjusting preload on these things, I have always just sprayed them down with WD 40 and used a punch and hammer and lightly tapped them around the adjust preload. I was doing this on my 06 Apex Gt rear shock and it seems like the first coller is almost a type of plastic material? or really soft metal, just wondering how everyone adjusts these on their sleds. I need some more preload in the back bad, I think I just need a bigger spring, but I want to see what I can get out of this one while keeping it in spec so I don't have coil bind.
There is a wrench for that. Usually found in the factory tool kit. I use a strut spring compressor and compress the spring and then adjust the preload nuts. Less chance of wrecking them this way.

The wrench sucks...best way is the way you've been doing it. Maybe use a piece of hardwood instead of the punch.

It's still the stock spring for a 06 Apex Gt, shock has been revalved. I doubt I will be able to get enough preload out of it for how I like to ride.

Brass key stock. I used a piece of 3/8 x 8" long. Doesn't mar up your lock collar and bites instead of slipping.

As you know, more spring is really required on the GT. The main adjuster nut is a fiber reinforced plastic. It has plenty of up sides... The down side (?) is that one really needs to use the wrench. I can supply both if you are interested (TY Advertiser in the works).
