I am looking for something to keep the ice off my intercooler this season, it would be a bonus if it looks stock or close to it?

I know there are a couple out there, what works well?

The stock Thundercat grill is what I use. It works better than the Yamaha iceberg makers. Keep in mind if you put frogskinz in front of the intercooler it kills the air going thru it and intake temps suffer.

Even the grill warms intake temps a bit more. The best for intake temps is nothing in front of the intercooler, but I know for protection something is needed, so the Thundercat grill is about the best option.

it makes sense that the frogskin limits airflow, but I figured that would be less restrictive than the block of ice I typically get there? I do not have a heated garage this year to thaw it out each night, it will be in a trailer overnight.

This is true. The iceberg is the killer to flow.

If it were me and that was the case. I'd buy some bulk frogskinz and glue it right over the top of the ThunderCat grill then. Cheap and easy to try and I'd think it would work great to keep the snow out. Not getting into a heated garage is a problem for that iceberg issue.

Putting frogskinz over the thunzdercat grill provides more surface area than anything I've seen available to the aftermarket. There are grills out there in the aftermarket but seem to be pricy and provide less surface area.

I use the Thundercat grill (yes it snaps into place the same) with Frogskin. I bought a piece and hot glued it on the edges. Has worked great for 2 years now. I understood it would limit airflow, but I follow close and have an ice block up front in the first couple hours of riding. This is a better compromise for me. FYI - You get 0 build up with the frogskin.

I figured it would work well for keeping snow out. And the Cat grill has many more square inches available for the frogskinz than some of the small grills I've seen on the market that use the frogskinz.

That is the problem however is trying to get airflow thru it in this application. It not being sucked thru like it would be as a pre-filter on an air filter. You get some flow but not like completely open. Better though than having an iceberg up front blocking the pathway.

FRogskins limit air flow like you wouldn’t believe .

Oh I believe it!

Even a TCat grill in front of the intercooler heats the intake up more than without. The best is no grill in front if you can get by without one.

I think we need to make the intercooler bigger. I assume higher IAT robs power and a bigger intercooler would lower the temp. I noticed my old 1100 runs much cooler IAT than my buddies Tcat. Now that I ride a Tcat, I starting to think about the IAT.

By the way, I rode it for the first time last weekend and cannot believe the difference EPS makes. I am now spoiled forever.

I added this bumper for more physical protection and better grab than the stock bumper. not sure if it will help with snow and ice build up? my winder runs hot anyway and had to add scratchers! I am monitoring to see how the tcat grill works....

Anything additional you install in front of the grill will make snow buildup worse.

Thundercat grill works much better than the Yamaha grill, no need to monitor. We have proven that years ago and still remains true today. The Yamaha grill is a two-piece design that absolutely makes and holds onto icebergs.
